      Re: Superman Reboot

I thought Routh brought a kind of otherworldly dignity to the role. The fact that the film was a wholesale homage to the Reeve films didn't do him any favors as he was crucified for copying Reeve. This time around I'm sure he would bring more of his own ideas into it. Plus I doubt Snyder is going to make a film like Superman Returns that so slavishly imitated the Donner films.

I highly doubt Welling will get the part. For better or worse he is tied to the Smallville interpretation of the character and I can't see Snyder or Nolan signing off on him. Way too much baggage...

I do hope the costume is more traditional, not that I totally disliked the Returns suit. I just think it should be a bit brighter and the cape should have the yellow S

Good to see Mark Waid (Author of Birthright) has come out in support of having Routh back. It really will be criminal if he goes down as a Lazenby without getting a chance to develop the character across multiple films.

Yeah but there's something about him, I don't see a Superman in him. Other than Brandon Routh I think Tom Welling could do it as he has done it for the past 10 years, and I thin Jim Caviezel might could pull it off.

Bomer is a pretty good actor on White Collar, though.

Mark Waid knows where it's at.

Oh and I read Birthright, awesome awesome retelling of Superman's origin and first exposure to the world. I really liked how Waid linked Clark and Lex the way he did. The only complaint I have is with some of the personality tics that Lex had but it fit what Waid was doing. I think the way Lex was portrayed wouldn't work nearly so well on film but other then that you could basically put the panels to life and it'd be a great flick.

Oh well, we'll see how this new Superman film turns out.

                          Re: Superman Reboot

Yep back in 2005 I thought that Birthright would have been the perfect novel to adapt and reboot the movie franchise, especially after seeing Batman Begins and the way that Nolan based his story on the Long Halloween and Year One. But then Singer came out with his tribute to the Donner films and it put the franchise in a strange place.

I think they just need to treat the new film as taking place in an alternate universe and leave Superman Returns for what it was. A beautifully shot and somewhat interesting piece that wrapped up the original films nicely.

But please bring back the one aspect of Returns that absolutely worked perfectly, Routh.

                            Re: Superman Reboot

Empire Magazine has published a new interview with Zack Snyder in which he discusses his plans for the new Superman movie.

"It's a different story," Snyder said. "I won't say there's a break from the canon or anything like that, but there is definitely an approach that makes you go, 'Okay, that's a way to get at it.'"
He continued: "David is very respectful of the canon and stuff like that. It has its roots in the canon and again, like I say, it has a point of view about who he is. I'm being cryptic, I know, but it's the best I can do."

Snyder also said it was too early to talk about whether his movie would track Superman's early days, but did say that "the internet has no idea what's going on", adding that the rumors of General Zod being the villain of the film are "just wrong".

                              Cryptic for sure but interesting.

I dunno if I believe that the internet is wrong. There's gotta be a leak somewhere. I can't wait for more solid info to come out though.
