Yea, I read that initially, it will be Buik, Visa, and Proctor and Gamble off the top of my head, but as long as it is merely a screen saver that comes on after a reasonable amount of time, I am ok with it. ten to fifteen minutes should be adequate for me.

What if you aren't in a WiFi ready place? How would the sponsor pop up?

From what I could tell, and this could be wrong, they are loaded into the system. I am much more confident of that answer when it comes to the screensavers though, as it makes more sense. I would assume Amazon has a system for it to always show up, which is why you have to buy a completely separate Kindle for it to work. Again, just speculation.

You're probably right. They are probably delivered when you are in a WiFi spot downloading a book or just outside.

Then when you use it, the content just loads to your screen.

My Kindle arrived yesterday and so far i couldn't be happier with it.

One quick question: To access the free old books do I need to download them to my cpu via that gutenberg website or can I access them in the kindle store straight from the device?

The kindle store has some free books, but getting anything from guttenberg would require a dl to your pc first then transfer to the kindle. Someone else would have to go into detail though I haven't gotten anything from there for my kindle

I searched free books and found about 10 ebooks telling me how to get free books but each of those were $1.

Yeah, the Gutenberg site you just download the file to your PC and transfer it over to the Kindle.

Here's the Kindle Store link for the popular classics:

                  http://www.amazon.com/s/?node=2245146011

Just select a book and do the "Buy Now" option.

I had no idea there were free books on my kindle. I know you can link up and "check out' the book from some libraries though

The only downfall out of the box is that you can't enjoy reading anything in .epub format. Well, that's easily fixed by downloading Calibre to your PC, and converting all the .epub material to the .mobi format for your Kindle. Problem solved.

I bought my wife the K3 during the Holidays, and it's been used on a weekly basis ever since. Great product.

So I really want the Kindle, but I have an opportunity to buy a Nook, never used, for $50. I sell Kindles all the time at Best Buy and I feel like they're superior. I like the form factor and the keyboard specifically. But the only thing that the Kindle has that the Nook doesn't is Time Magazine. That's it really.

So, as Kindle users, is it worth the extra $100 or should I pull the trigger on the Nook?

The original Nook. There really isn't much difference between the two aside from aesthetics. I like the Kindle in that fashion, but the Nook can support epub out of the box and has just as many books. The only thing I want that the Kindle has and the Nook doesn't is Time magazine and the Kansas City Star.

Time sucks, so that's not a loss (plus you can read the articles online). The local paper I can see being a loss, but honestly, I wonder if the love and care goes into the smaller papers like it does for the two I read on the Kindle, the New York Times and Wall Street Journal.

[I did a free trial of the Washington Post and USA Today and the formatting and errors were terrible, IMO, and those are big papers]

Still, $50 for a portable library is a steal. Then again, if you are looking to build and then expand your collection, you need to pick one and stick with it, in which case go with the Kindle. If B&N ever goes bankrupt like Borders, I wonder what will happen with the Nook Store.

Yeah, but there are also plenty of ways to convert nook books to Amazon books and getting rid of the DRM on them too, so in reality, I could still bring those over. IDK the more I think about it, it's more of a why not situation. I mean, $50 isn't a giant investment anyways.
