Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
23 are you looking to blow 2k on the biggest or best tv?
For that budget you can get a top notch plasma which is better then led,lcd especially for movies and gaming.
If you want to put the tv in a bright room and use your pc on it then LED,LCD would be fine
Right here is the best tv you can get for that budget and it is an incredible set better then any led besides the Elite which is way past your stated budget

Hey man... I do love Panny's, and I know their plasma's are some really great tv's... Im too concerned about image retention to try for a plasma though, but my thing is I want my room to be bright, im not so much into dark rooms most of the time to be honest with you.
I'm going to keep this on the wishlist though because I might have something come up soon. Spoke to a buddy who does installation work and he gets alot of things from CCTV.. if you dont know what that is its pretty much China run who makes alot of our electronics.
Anyhow, he knows a wholesaler who gets tv's and they dont cost as much as the stores because that extra charge on the price is not there
I should be getting something in about 2 weeks or so, so if you do continue to spot things post em here. Im going to be relaxed in my game room with a nice set before its all over.Comment

If so, go LED. I've had my LED for 3 years now & really don't regret it. My reason for buying LED was because I didn't want to go through breaking it in. I also have a family who had no idea about TV's.
My room also played a part, as our family room gets bright because of windows.
That's my experience. Either way you can't go wrong.
EDIT: IMO the SHARP 60 inch sounds like what you want. 1 of the best response times for gaming out there.

I haven't read through the entire thread but I watched this youtube video yesterday and a single tear came down my eye.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Anyway, in the beginning (and after about 200 hours of break-in), there was definitely IR. I noticed it with COD's ammo, where I could see the "60" in the bottom right corner and all of the little hashes. I also noticed it with movies that had a letterbox ratio.
After maybe 2,000 hours of use, I don't think I notice it anymore, but I'm not positive either, so I just try and not take any chances. I know what my downstairs TV has, and I don't ever want mine to have anything like that.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I probably wouldn't invest in one of these unless they were 16:9.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

As long as you break-in your plasma 23 Image Retention shouldn't be a problem. I believe you said you didn't want to go through breaking in your new TV.

You have 2 things that can happen: image retention and burn in. IR is temporary and can go away in seconds- minutes either with a white wash, color wash or normal tv viewing. Burn in permanent image retention.
A new plasma that hasn't been broken in + high contrast + static image for hours on end is a recipe for disaster. If you want to game on a new plasma, go for it...just be sure to lower the contrast and take it off the vivid/torch picture settings.
Most plasmas have a pixel shift/orbiter to help prevent serious IR and burn in. Many blu ray players have a screen saver that will turn on if you fall asleep in the middle of the movie and it goes back to the menu screen.
Maintaining a plasma early on isn't hard but you still have to do it, IMO.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
When I got my first plasma I played hitman not knowing about this stuff since they were still fairly new
Scared the mess out of me when I could still see the game some time after... so I decided not to ever game on the plasma again
I am against doing it now honestly, I dont feel like going through hours and hours of tweaks just to do normal things... its either LCD or LED for me all the wayComment

Anyway, if I have an image on the screen without static content, I will use Screen Fit. If I am, say, playing a game or watching a show with a static logo, I will use 16:9.
I still screen wash every time.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
