Anyone here have a projector system? I just purchased a VPLHW40ES and a 120" Screen Innovations display. The theater room is becoming more of a theater room with this purchase. The selling point was Sony's 18ms input lag on this projector. The biggest drawback for a projector, in my opinion, is that gaming input lag is usually pretty bad. Epson projectors range as high as 120ms input lag. My Sony tv is around 40-50ms so this will be a better experience.

My only thing is, I've never owned a projector. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated. I know what makes a projector good or bad, and what screens are solid, but I've never set one up...

I played before on a projector and didn't notice lag. Keep us posted as I'm interested to hear how it goes, would like to go this route at some point myself

I've had an Acer, Epson and recently the Optoma line. I did a lot of gaming on each. Each had a gaming preset mode within the settings. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I love my projector experience.

A lot of the higher end Epsons don't have game mode settings. Optoma and BenQ are made for gaming, but we watch a lot of movies and sports. That's why I went with the Sony. I'm excited. I don't care about kd anymore, I just want an immersive experience. Really pumped to play 8 player smash on 120" though lol

Haha, the Sony is the best gaming projector on the market for input lag and picture quality. I just meant the Sony is better for sports/movies than Epson or Optima.

Yeah this thing is a beast. 120" looking like a TV...I had my doubts but this is unreal!

LCD is the way to go. LCD is lighter and it lasts longer.

How long do you need a TV to last?

I don't know about you, but we've had our first plasma for ten years and just sold it a few days ago. It wasn't even close to dying, dimming, or anything like that. If I have a TV for so long that it dies on me, it's time for me to get a new one anyway.

I don't need my TV's to reach peak luminance, anyway. I care much more about things like black levels, shadow detail, color uniformity, viewing angles, frame interpolation... the works. Plasma takes care of that for me, and the Samsung F8500 is plenty bright enough even for the LCD crowd.

I don't know about you, but we've had our first plasma for ten years and just sold it a few days ago. It wasn't even close to dying, dimming, or anything like that. If I have a TV for so long that it dies on me, it's time for me to get a new one anyway.

For me, about 3 years. I like to look for a new one about every 3 years. I'm curious to see how advanced TVs will be once every 3 years. Recently, the big thing are these "Smart" TVs. Those are the big thing because you can use the internet to watch NetFlix, Hulu, and Roku. Lately, its all about the Amazon FireTV. Also, people seem to want that new Google Play. Used to be people wanted the 3-D TVs. These kids today have it easy. As of about 10 years ago, if you wanted to rent a movie you'd have to drive to the video store. Today, you can just use your remote to rent movies by the internet, and watch within minutes on your TV. There's also YouTube, Vudu, and Amazon.

Save yourself some money and get a "dumb" tv, then buy whatever set top box you want for smart features. Much easier and cheaper to upgrade a box than tv.

4K is now the savior for the tv industry. They thought it was 3D (didn't pan out).

4K won't be that successful, in my opinion. For 4K to be most beneficial, we're talking 60"+ screen sizes (100" if we really want to talk not having diminished returns), which rises costs significantly more then and there. There is still not a 4K Blu-ray format that is hitting shelves left and right, and nothing will ever broadcast in 4K either.

The picture will be prettier and the benefits are there for some things, but the future will be in OLED, whether it's 1080p or 4K or whatever else. It's not the resolution that's going to win the end battle, is all I'm saying. Once they figure out how to get OLED screens both cheaper, everyone will be jumping on that, including myself (as long as motion is good).
