As much as many hate to admit, especially people who have already grossly overpaid for 4k TV's, it is basically a gimmick much like curved TVs. Even if you got 4k content within the next decade on cable, it would be so compressed that you would see no advantage. Look at the typical HD signal you get now on cable. 90% of it is terrible quality, especially sports.

Streaming has limited content and good luck having a quality stream with the bandwidth required for 4k. Best case scenario is 4k BR discs but that won't be widely available in terms of titles for at least another 5 years and that's no guarantee. It will be a niche market at best and will probably flounder much like SACD did for audio.

Its a no brainer, get the 70" 2k TV. By the time 4k TV content will be the majority of your viewing content, the TV you plan on purchasing now will be long gone.

I stopped reading when you said "2k" tv lol

Get the extra inches as long as that TV actually has good reviews and quality picture.

Crazy to think that I created this thread about 4 years ago and I am now looking to replace my Panasonic G20 Plasma (50 inch). The set still runs great, but I am looking to go 60-65 inch. Looking at ebay, I can fetch $350-$500 for my set still which wouldn't be a bad thing. I was looking at the Sony Bravia KDL60W850B since from a gaming and sports standpoint, everything I read and hear is that the Sony is the better buy.

          I love my Panny 50 plasma. I wish I got the 60.

I wish I would have also done the same. I did get the Sony Bravia KDL60W850B yesterday and going back to 50" now would be rather difficult for my main TV. This set is awesome, my only complaint is that even though how far LED has come it still doesn't compare to a higher end plasma.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a 50 inch Panasonic plasma and wish I would've gotten a 60 or 65 inch tv at the time. And like you I also feel LEDS have improved but still not on the level of plasmas.

Plasma was king and I am glad I have the Kuro and VT60 but my gaming is on the 4K Samsung UHD.

For movies and sports...Nothing beats a plasma until OLED comes full born

For gaming if input lag is decent to good the LED tv's provide a sharper more smooth image over anything except of course monitors.

I game on my 65UH8550 and watch sports on my plasma VT60

That's my next step. I want an OLED TV, but I'm not paying the ridiculous prices right now. LED tv's just don't look as good to me as plasmas. Plus the blacks oh the deep inky blacks of plasmas are unmatched. Samsungs are infamous for bad input lag and changing it to game mode makes the picture look worse.

Game Mode on the high end Samsung LED or Plasma look good after tweaking settings.

Blacks are of course awesome in plasma but resolution is better on LED...My Samsung Plasma F8500 in game mode has no bad input lag and I can rock any FPS game online easily

But gaming on the UHD from Samsung or Sony for that matter is breathtaking.

Plasma is dead now and nobody is going to make them even better since they are done

Speaking of Darblet, I think I fried mine. I inserted the wrong power supply when trying to plug it up. Now I get no video...and the red LED blinks on both the cord and Darblet. $200 paperweight.

So does the 4k upconvert the signal to better quality say on the ps4, and is there any lag to it? Love both my Panny G25 plasma and 27" Acer monitor , but starting to get interested in 4k via tv or monitor.
