What are you talking about? Being mastered in 4K does not mean it is being shown in 4K.

If people want to grossly overpay for 4K TV's now, let them do it because in 5 years time I will have a 4K TV (only because there will be nothing else offered) that will be much better in features and picture quality and I will be paying less than half the price. Then we may see a 4K BR player and discs (maybe).

What we definately will not be seeing is standard cable in 4K where almost everyone does the majority of their TV viewing. That is at least 20 years away. There is no way cable companies are gonna overhaul thier entire infrastructure to handle the required bandwidth so that 10% of their customers who have 70+ TV's and sit 6 feet away can see a difference. It's not even debatable at this point. 1080P has been around for about a decade and have we heard anything about cable even offering 1080P? Yeah, I didn't think so.

You can waste your money now on a 4K TV, just be prepared that you will be on your 2nd or 3rd one when you will actually be watching more than 50% of your content in 4K. If you got cash to burn then go for it.

Judging from your question have you had any experience with Plasmas? In my opinion they destroy the picture quality of an LCD hands down. I wish Panasonic was still making Plasmas. OLED is suppose to be better than Plasmas, but they're too expensive. I've been thinking about getting a new tv, but I'm going to chill for now because I don't want to pay for over priced 4K tv's right now. Hopefully we start getting more content for it.

Pretty cool news regarding 2015 Sony televisions. They will all basically have PlayStation TV built into them. You will be able to use remote play if you have a PS4 in your house. Sony is really going all out with gaming, it was really do or die for the company with all they've done so far. Glad to see it paying off so far.

That is very cool, but then I wonder how it will function in terms of inserting Vita games or something into it. Maybe that won't be possible then.

I think it's just going to have the remote play feature in it. You'd need to purchase the PS TV in order to do the Vita games, but I'm not sure. Well see at CES I guess.

This feature is also coming to 2015 Samsung models as well. Sony is stepping it up.

Need some help, I know the basics of 4K and such... Do I get a 55-65 inch 4K TV or do I get a 70-75 inch HDTV which will be around the same price... Question is do I sacrifice 10 inches for the 4K capability? I currently have a 52 inch HDTV which is about 5 years old now and looking to upgrade

                        Thanks

If your not looking to break the bank, I suggest the VIZIO P Series. 4K at a real affordable price.

Really good reviews from many professional reviewers.

Even though I didn't need a TV, I was just doing some general research on 4k HDTV and came across the video below. Something regarding 8bit vs 10bit panels, and how 10bits are future proof when real 4k content becomes standard. Something about 8bit 4k tv panels becoming "obsolete" (probably wrong choice of word).

Bottom line from what I have read over the net--most 4K tvs sold today are 8bit panels. There are only a few true 10bit 4k tvs.

Some guy on youtube talking about 4k tvs, interesting tidbit.

Depends on certain things. There won't be any quality 4k content for a long, long time. Unless you sit 5 feet away from the TV you will not see a difference with 2k content vs 4k content on a 60 inch TV.

As much as many hate to admit, especially people who have already grossly overpaid for 4k TV's, it is basically a gimmick much like curved TVs. Even if you got 4k content within the next decade on cable, it would be so compressed that you would see no advantage. Look at the typical HD signal you get now on cable. 90% of it is terrible quality, especially sports.

Streaming has limited content and good luck having a quality stream with the bandwidth required for 4k. Best case scenario is 4k BR discs but that won't be widely available in terms of titles for at least another 5 years and that's no guarantee. It will be a niche market at best and will probably flounder much like SACD did for audio.

Its a no brainer, get the 70" 2k TV. By the time 4k TV content will be the majority of your viewing content, the TV you plan on purchasing now will be long gone.
