LG is good and you can get it considerably cheaper than a Samsung or a Sony, but will you be gaming on it? Just be wary of any potential input lag from either LG or Samsung. Sony seems to be a little better at it in my eyes.

Interesting on the lag...I haven't gamed in a few years, but I wouldn't want to rule it out. I am leaning towards Sony, but can't seem to find a 42" available anywhere."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I'd probably just go with LG then. Sony kind of jumped out of the LCD market, except for smaller monitors. These seem to be LG's focus these days.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I'd say Sony and Samsung are tops in LCDs. LG is that tier right behind them.
Sony and Samsung do a better job with black levels and color accuracy.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 06-30-2012, 08:08 AM.Comment

I think I decided on a 40" Sony...the built in home theatre area can hold up to 42", but 40" will work just fine and I think I'd rather have Sony."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Probably answered in here already but - what is Gorilla Glass?Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Used in phones, tablets, monitors, etc Harder to break or scratch.
"Gorilla Glass is an unscratchable, unshatterable material used as a protective window for your mobile phone, PMP, or laptop display. It's in 65 products already, and I can assure you that the very nice man from Corning is not faking it. Your intrepid reporter also gave this several tries with all his blogger strength, and couldn't make a dent. I was, however, able to scratch the heck out of some polycarbonate."

Finally pulled the trigger on a 51" Samsung plasma and I am more than happy with it. Was worried about going plasma, but it's very nice.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Was listening to one of HDTV podcast a week ago. Said that some installers were hooking up 3 brand new plasmas: a Samsung (can't remember what series), a Panasonic VT and Panasonic GT. All 3 hooked up to the same source, and somebody mistakenly left a static image up overnight. Results?
Samsung had no image retention
VT had image retention but went away after a few minutes
GT had the closest thing to burn in....left it running for several days and a faint image could still be seen
Moral of the story: Still better to play it safe with a plasma. Lower the contrast and stay away from static images (if displayed for long time periods) during the first 100-150 hours.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Haven't picked it up yet, but our local COSTCO has this one for around $600:

I'm still shopping around to see if I can find a better price, but I think this is going to be the one...looks fantastic in the store."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
If anyone here is looking for a plasma then I suggest the Panny which is the best plasma in the market today.
The samsung plasma is also very nice but does not match up well to the panny.
Even the lower end Panny plasma would be ideal over the high end sammy plasma for 2012
I personally have the 65VT30 and wanted to sell it to buy the 65VT50 but thought it would be a dumb move on my part since I would lose out on money in the end.
I just bought the energy take 5.1 classic speaker system with sub for $400 on Amazon and a Pioneer Elite AV Receiver from BB.
Let me tell you that my gaming and blu ray watching is at a whole new level right nowComment
