No, THX is the name if the setting itself in my mode, it's built in.

My tv doesn't have it but I've read up on it. It's a picture setting that has been calibrated to reference levels (assuming you are using a dark environment). I don't believe you can make any changes to it.

I'd use it for night time movie watching.

Just got a Toshiba 46" 1080p LCD a few days ago. Set it up in the apartment and picked up a crystal clear HD signal just in time to watch Michael Vick stage a comeback against the Giants.

It was beautiful. There's nothing like a brand spanking new hi-def TV.

Hooked up the 63" Samsung Plasma 3DTV after work today (model PN63C8000). All I can say is "Wow". The PQ on this set is unbelievable...and that's pre-calibration. Even my wife who isn't really into TV's said "Wow. That's one great picture". Of course, I've had to turn turn the contrast way down during the break-in period and while the picture still looks good, it's a bit dark (set contrast at 45 for break-in). Rather be safe than sorry with any IR/burn-in. I'm sure burn-in won't be an issue with pixel shifting and all of the other features, but I'd like to be safe.

Tomorrow I'm going to run the break-in slides for most of the day. Didn't have time to do this after work today and wanted to watch the Steelers game tonight. Still haven't hooked up anything else outside of my receiver so I'll have to check out 3D tomorrow.

I'm debating on whether to use my PS3 for blu-ray or the BD-C6900 that came with the bundle.

Did you end up with the 8000 series plasma?

I can't wait until I get more TV choices once I move out, but by the time that happens these TVs will be cheap as hell anyway (or at least cheaper).

Yes, I got the 8000 series. I went back and forth between the 8000 Samsung and VT25 Panasonic. Went with the Samsung after a discussion with a calibrator and due to the price. Most reviews have these two sets neck and neck (slight edge to the Panasonic), but I couldn't justify spending an extra 800-1000 for the Panasonic. I'm glad I didn't as this set is quite impressive.

Almost didn't go this route after reading stuff on AVS Forum (mainly buzzing issues and people complaining about every minor thing). Those guys are crazy and/or too particular/anal etc... I'm very particular, but don't see/hear the things I've read over there.

Funny you mention that as I was switching between the Pens and Steelers tonight. I stayed with the Pens when the shootout was occurring. Definitely looking forward to the Winter Classic.

Oh, was this the TV that was extremely loud? Yeah, I heard that it was a nearly perfect TV with this one major flaw. I do hope you don't really hear it, at least not more than any other plasma.

Yeah they claim there's a buzzing sound. Honestly, I don't hear a thing with TV sound or surround sound on a normal level. When I mute everything, I can hear a very slight buzzing (ie: almost sounds like the fan on a laptop - it's that quiet). The buzzing is a little bit louder when everything is muted and I turn my head to the side (which doesn't matter because I won't be watching TV with my head to the side!). Sure doesn't sound any louder than any other TV I've ever owned.

Put it this way, if I had never read about it, I'd never notice it. I mentioned it to my wife and she couldn't hear a thing - even with everything muted. She thought I was crazy.

That's why things on AVS annoy me at times. It's like the bug threads on OS. If I read them, I find things that I probably wouldn't have noticed before. Hence why I never read bug threads anymore.

I actually read it on Amazon. I think it's the best rated three star review or something, you might want to check it out.

As long as you're not having problems, let's just hope it stays that way. On another note, I was just at Best Buy and looked at Avatar's 3D look for the first time on some Panasonic Vieja. I can't wait until I get some form of a 3DTV! I will need it for The Show haha.

I'm starting up the break-in slides in a few minutes. I'm going to run them all day today before I leave for Xmas Eve dinner and Church with the family (I don't trust running them when I'm not at home yet - I'm scared it might get stuck on one image).

Run the break-in images as much & as often as possible. Are using a SD CARD/USB Drive or a DVD?

Anyway to have to different TV settings for Games and Blu-Rays if using a PS3? I want to have different TV settings for when I play games and for when I watch Blu-Rays, but I'm using a PS3 as my player so it's only one input on the TV. Any way to do this? It's a Samsung LCD.
