Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

Okay so today was a wasted day. Called the people in charge of delivering it when they were here at the appointed time and they tell me that they won't transfer out of a local agent until tonight, and that I'll be receiving a call to schedule the delivery tomorrow. So all that nonsense about scheduling for Wednesday between 10-12 was just that. They actually received it yesterday but I won't get a call to schedule the delivery until tomorrow.

Why do people really care about such a silly gimmick anyway? The PQ on my set is so amazing that I couldn't imagine viewing it any other way.
Look I hear you but after seeing my first 3D movie last week (Titanic) I find it really fascinating and I think it's really something that I would enjoy having in my home.

Not to belittle your opinion too much here, because I see where you're coming from, but I'm sure when sound and color made it's way to TV many people said the same thing.

Hell I remember a few years ago people saying the same about HDTV!

With all that being said, I realize I'm in the minority on it but that's fine, to each his own. 3D will only really and truly catch on I think when there are no glasses required.

Despite my posts it's not a selling point for me either but if I'm spending money to replace my old TV I want something that's an upgrade and the more upgrades the better. Especially something as neat (IMO) as 3D.

And yes, I plan to buy a 3D blu-ray player as well when I see one for a good deal.

Jeesh man, that sucks, I know you're disappointed but it won't be long now so don't get too upset.

Lol yeah I know, but it's like being a kid waking up on Christmas and your parents tell you that the actual opening of the gifts has been delayed for a while.

There was a little confusion with my Amazon order/shipping too. The date that Amazon gave me as the "estimated delivery date" apparently was more or less the date that the shipper got it and would call to schedule the delivery. I emailed and told them I thought it was supposed to be at my house then and not just getting scheduled and they gave me like a $50 credit.

Yep, I contacted them as well and they did the same.

Amazon is fantastic with this stuff. This is why I will only use them in the future, for most things. Delivery is quick, price is very competitive, and customer service is unmatched.

What is the incentive, if any, to buy the TV at Best Buy? About the only thing I can think of is if it's broken you could return it and get a new TV the same day. And that means nothing to me because a 55" TV wouldn't fit in my car...

Just wondering how the brick and mortar stores compete in this area, or are they not competing really?

I would be surprised if the majority of consumers were buying TV's online.

There is absolutely zero benefit from purchasing a TV at Best Buy. They are the worst.

I buy all of my higher end electronics from Amazon.

Unless you can use your brother-in-law's employee discount

The only thing I get from them is Best Buy gift cards so I spend my annual $25 a year from Christmas at Best Buy sometime around July lol.

Yep, it's no wonder they are closing over 250 stores this year.

The day they quit price matching to Amazon (end of 2008 or so) I quit buying from them.

Here is another reason why Best Buy are no good scam artist worthless pieces of trash:

                                <object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vZq4UnkgZQI?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vZq4UnkgZQI?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

That's not an isolated incident either. There are also investigative reports in California, Texas, Florida, New York and Ohio of them doing the same exact thing. Plus, they pressure you into buying $100+ HDMI cables.

Seriously, **** Best Buy (or Worst Lie as I call them) and I hope they go out of business.
