Plasmas are for more expert TV buyers....not the majority of TV users. LED/LCDs are much more forgiving if you have kids and less TV savvy people.

I would love to use a Plasma for gaming, but it is not worth the risk to me...however small.
Okay man. No sense in rehashing things again for you. Agree to disagree.

      http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=operasport-20

Needs: 50 inch, Under $1,000, stand+Tv cant be more than 11 inches

      Dont need: 3d, smart Tv

It will be sitting on a fireplace mantle so it will be higher than what is recommended.
      I have this one. It's a 120hz with/backlight, and has a beautiful picture. I'd highly recommend it. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIER...anasonic+viera

Plus, it's 5 more inches for the price!
      Note to Tiburon Marketing:

A great product sells itself, no "back of the box" features required! (See Fifa...)

Thank you for the recommendation. That looks like a beauty but my problem is that the stand would hang an inch over my ledge and I don't think my wife will go for that. I'm trying to find something that is only 10.5 deep.

You can go with the 42'' version (I have one...it's great). The listing is wrong: it is a 120hz set.

            Overall

Can everyone stop the bickering over facts. The fact remains plasmas do suffer from certain draw backs, the same as LCD/LEDs suffer from others as well. The people glossing over the plasma drawbacks such as burn in and image retention as if they don't exist is wrong also and can lead to uninformed people not taking proper care of a plasma if they go that route. Plasma fans acting like burn in/image retention don't occur is like a LCD/LED fan acting as if ghosting never can happen on a LCD.

So can everyone stop with the LCD/LED fans vs Plasma fans fight.
That's all well and good except for the fact that LCD sets can also experience IR that is very similar to burn in. Not very likely, but it is still possible.

So to say "NO fear of image retention" on a LCD is fact is simply wrong.

My 27 inch LCD has burn in. One of my direct tv boxes isn't hd and my wife and kids didnt format the picture when they switched from hd to sd. It took a while but now we have two bars of dull colors on both sides of the screen.

It's rare to see IR on LCD panels but it does happen. In many cases, burn in or IR on LCD's is a lot worse than plasma, in terms of how bad it looks.

Non, if you gotta have a Samsung go with a 60in Plasma or LED, either way you go, go 60 inches, it's a huge difference. A 60" plasma should be cheaper though.

A plasma won't fit because of the depth I'm working with and 60 inches is too big for the space. 50 is as big as I can go.

It's really too bad you can't go plasma. The TC-P50ST60 is an awesome tv at near that price range. If you're stuck on LCD, go with the Samsung. The two tv's are very comparable and Sony hasn't made any major improvements in the LCD technology in recent years.

I don't know why you're recommending a 60'' tv without even asking him how far away he sits, how much room he has, etc. For some people, a 50" tv may be all they need. If you go too big for your room, you'll lose quality. If you want a quality 60" Samsung plasma you'll spend around $3,000 anyways. All the rest are doorstops.
