Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
How do you guys feel about this T.V.?
Samsung UN50ES6500 50-Inch 1080p 120Hz 3D Slim LED HDTV (Black)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=operasport-20
Needs: 50 inch, Under $1,000, stand+Tv cant be more than 11 inches
Dont need: 3d, smart Tv
It will be sitting on a fireplace mantle so it will be higher than what is recommended.
Plus, it's 5 more inches for the price!Note to Tiburon Marketing:
A great product sells itself, no "back of the box" features required! (See Fifa...)

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I have this one. It's a 120hz with/backlight, and has a beautiful picture. I'd highly recommend it. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIER...=operasport-20

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Plasmas
Pros - Excellent black levels
- Best response times
- Clear cut best picture quality
- Better view angles
- Good for Dark rooms
Cons - Susceptible to burn in & image retention
- Heavier than LCD/LEDS
- Creates more heat
- Uses more power
LCD/LED
Pros - Don't use very much power
- Generate very little heat
- No fear of burn in or Image retention
- Light weight
- Good for bright rooms
Cons - Black levels not equal to Plasma
- Lower picture quality to Plasma
- Lower response times
- Lower view angle
Overall
Can everyone stop the bickering over facts. The fact remains plasmas do suffer from certain draw backs, the same as LCD/LEDs suffer from others as well. The people glossing over the plasma drawbacks such as burn in and image retention as if they don't exist is wrong also and can lead to uninformed people not taking proper care of a plasma if they go that route. Plasma fans acting like burn in/image retention don't occur is like a LCD/LED fan acting as if ghosting never can happen on a LCD.
So can everyone stop with the LCD/LED fans vs Plasma fans fight.
So to say "NO fear of image retention" on a LCD is fact is simply wrong.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 05-07-2013, 09:16 PM.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
You can go with the 42'' version (I have one...it's great). The listing is wrong: it is a 120hz set.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
My 27 inch LCD has burn in. One of my direct tv boxes isn't hd and my wife and kids didnt format the picture when they switched from hd to sd. It took a while but now we have two bars of dull colors on both sides of the screen.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
It's rare to see IR on LCD panels but it does happen. In many cases, burn in or IR on LCD's is a lot worse than plasma, in terms of how bad it looks.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Non, if you gotta have a Samsung go with a 60in Plasma or LED, either way you go, go 60 inches, it's a huge difference. A 60" plasma should be cheaper though.
