Looks like I can get a used Harmony 700 for around $60.00, I think may go with that.

I just caved and bought it as well. Should be here Monday. Amped, my first HDTV purchase lol. Been waiting for years to do this.

What do you plasma owners do to prevent IR, especially when you first get your TV? I've heard of some folks running slides or looping movies for the first 100 hours. Any recommendations?

Watch full screen video. Don't leave it paused on something for hours.

or fall asleep and let a DVD or blu ray menu screen sit unchanged for hours.

freaked out when i woke up to having had Ong Bak 2 's blu ray menu having been sitting for almost 6 hours on my 1 week old plasma. luckily, it was just bad IR that eventually went away.

EDIT: It was also one of the few times early on that I had it in vivid mode....contrast was at 90 IIRC

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

If you're like me and are running somewhere between 1,700 and 2,000 hours, IR really shouldn't exist for me at this point. Of course, six hours of something like GC said might do it, but it's best to still take preventative measures when necessary.

The best way is like stretching in sports: do it to prevent an issue, not for when you have an issue. So for instance, if I watched a movie or something with a logo, I would run my slides/scrolling screen for 30-60 minutes with the sleep timer on the television, or have regular content (like HBO) on for that time. If you turn it off immediately after and go to a movie, game, or something with static images again next time, your IR might get stubborn.

By the way, I still do this. It's kind of just second nature now, and it doesn't take me any time at all to make happen.

Here is what a guy recommend I do...

              Lower black extension to 0
              Lower AGC to 0
              Turn over scan off
Change your gamma from 2.2 to 2.4 save HDMI black levels on light
              Disable motion Smoother when gaming
Disable 1080p pixel direct when gaming
              Enable game mode when gaming
Keep your panel brightness at mid for color/black levels accuracy
Lower your contrast to below 60 for the first few hundred hours.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

I think im going to take my Panasonic TC-PST60 back for the new LG - 60" Class Plasma 1080p 600htz Model 60PH6700. I love the Panasonic I have now but the only problem I have with it is that it's too small at 50inches and the 60" version is $700 more! I had a 42in LG LCD and going from 42" to 50" is not that big of a difference. Plus this LG plasma has just about everything the Panasonic does with a better remote and it can navigated with voice and hand gestures, something you can't do with my Panasonic. So I am going to take this Panasonic back (great TV!) and get this LG while I am still in my 15 day return period barring the picture quality is near equal.

Before I say what I say, let me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters (50" to 60" is a massive difference). Don't ever let anyone else tell you otherwise.

However, if picture quality and all that is a concern of yours when it comes to calibration and watching Blu-rays in a dark environment, etc. then I don't know if this is the best decision that you can make. It might be a good decision because I know that the other model is the best model at that price, but if you are able to spend more, I don't really know if there's a reason to go away from Panasonic or Samsung on the plasma line at 60" and above.

That's just the video aficionado in me speaking, and I haven't seen the LG for myself to know how it performs, so I'm only speaking from experience. I'm just wondering what else is out there around that price.

But yeah man, go for 60". I have 59" and love it! If I went any bigger (64/65"), it would not have properly fit with my assortment of equipment, so I had to optimize anyway. I'm perfectly okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches.

The 60" Panasonic ST60 is $700 more at $1700! This new LG is $1200.

OK, so I decided to go with the 60" version of the Panasonic I had, it was $1500 instead of $1700. And the LG was $1200, so I decided to stay/go with the Panasonic TC-P60ST60 for just a little more money. Now I need to figure out how to get it home, Best Buy delivery was out til Thursday of next week, no way I am waiting that long.

Well, now I certainly feel guilty for robbing you of $300 more than you intended to spend, but I also feel like you've made a better choice in the end.

Don't know if it comes with a fancy remote and hand/voice gestures, though.

No problem man, really didn't want to return that Panasonic because it looked so nice, glad I found the 60in version for $1500.

This is oh so true. People that tell you size doesn't matter have small TV's (transcends into other walks of life as well).

Take it from a guy who went from 50 to 60. Big difference.
