Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I have a Panasonic GT series Plasma right now and I get some noticeable line bleed from time to time. Like this...
It also just doesn't seem to be able to handle fast-moving images like a 240Hz LCD can. I know all plasma's are 600Hz but for whatever reason, in my eyes, the moving picture just looks better on high-end LCD's.
I'm open for suggestions but I want something that a) performs at an optimal with fast-moving images and b) does not suffer from any line bleeding, banding, or clouding.
Thanks for the input and I'm eager to hear if any of you guys have plasma's that don't have line bleeding.Comment

This is a bad panel right? Specifically the dark cloud, the other coloration is the poor SD channel that made this jump out the most. Sometimes you can't even tell it is there.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
An LCD can and will interpolate more than sixty frames per second, plus add motion blur. If you think that more frames in between means it "handles fast-moving images better," than LCD will be for you. All plasma screens operate at 60 Hz, and have ten subfields within each frame, handling each individual frame well but only operating as many as sixty frames per second.
Whichever looks better to you is the one that you should choose, but don't get pulled into hearing 600 Hz and think that it's running 600 frames per second.
My plasma has line bleeding, but it doesn't seem to be noticeable in any normal viewing content. If there's a large black bar going across the screen (like for my volume from my Yamaha receiver) or if the white letters in front of the green screen of a trailer preview rating is on the television, I'll see it. I won't see it otherwise.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I've said it before, but 600 Hz on a plasma isn't quite measuring the exact same thing as, say, 240 Hz on an LCD.

Check avsforum and read the es8000 thread. They can let you know if the 65 is fixed yet. I got mine from amazon, so I didn't have any issues returning/exchanging the 2 I got. If you have a DVR, record the Superbowl and then try it on the 65, you will notice any vertical banding right away.
I would start with the 65 and try 1-2 of those. I haven't read about anyone having banding on the 60, for some reason only the 65.

People who have tried to play games not on game mode have quickly realized how tough it is, especially on the MLB the Show forums. On well, I hopefully don't have to explain what game mode doesComment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I'm looking to purchase a TV in the 46-50 inch range. I would like it to have WiFi and the ability to use Netflix, Hulu, etc. My budget is around $1000, but could go slightly higher if necessary. Any recommendations?Comment

Finally calibrating my 55lm7600 again. This tv is amazing for calibrations. An ISF certified tv is rare to come by, but this LG is. Ill post my pre and post calibration reports after I finish.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
When using game mode should you adjust settings such as backlight, color, contrast, brightness, sharpness etc or leave as is? Settings are lower than standard mode just want to make sure it is okay to tweak them without causing problems when gaming. I know all the processing features such as trumotion are off as they should be when playing games. I have a 42 inch LG lcd tv 120hz. Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Depends on if you like Plasma (Panasonic) or LED (Samsung). Both of those TVs are top of the line brands for their types. I would say go look at them in person and pick with one you like best.Last edited by p_rushing; 02-08-2013, 02:46 PM.Comment
