Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Do you guys think that Black Friday was the best weekend for deals on TV or will there be better deals closer to Christmas such as the Saturday before Christmas?psn:ndluverComment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
My guess is you will see good deals all the way til Christmas. If you can holdout, the week before Super Bowl Sunday (last week Jan/1st week Feb) is a great time to buy a TV as the deals will also be goodComment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
So do they still make TVs with picture-in-picture? It seems like some cool features you used to see on TVs have disappeared. I had a TV that you could set a timer in 30 second intervals. You set it on the channel you were on, then when you changed the channel it would change back to the channel you were on when you set the time. Mainly PIP though.Comment

Yeah, was easier for TVs to do that back in the day pre-digital and with more people on OTA. Most of those types of things are left up to set top boxes now. We used side-by-side picture-in-picture the first half of the day today on our 5 tuner DirecTV box watching football. Was amazing.

The cost is lowered to the buyers and hhgregg gets very aggressive and will negotiate more aggressively to get rid of inventory. The last year I worked there there were high end models available with over 75% markup. Samsung, Panasonic and LG have the lowest landed cost this time of year.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
You know that TV has only 2 HDMI inputs? For future proofing I would suggest a TV that offers 4 HDMI Inputs at minimum.
If your still open to LED/LCD I suggest the Sharp 640U series. Great TV for the price. Offers minimal Input Lag in Game Mode.

Cheapest place to buy. Hdmi cables that cost you 60 bucks else where cost you $7-$15.
Check it out and thank me later.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
First off...a 120Hz LCD tv won't benefit you in gaming because game mode will make the screen 60Hz anyways, which all LCD panels do. If you play with full refresh rates above 60Hz you'll notice a ton of lag.
For gaming, plasma is the way to go. I would recommend the 55st50 Panasonic. If you're set on LCD, go with the 55Lm7600 made by LG.

co-sign on monoprice but their shipping is high for basic cables. You can do better with 3rd party vendors on Amazon. 6ft HDMI cables are around $2 shipped.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 12-04-2012, 12:04 AM.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
True, but that adds to the clutter. At this point 3 HDMI inputs should be expected in all hdtvs bigger than 32 inches.

Don't ever settle on cheap hdmi cables. After monsters demo at a conference, if never buy a cheap cable. Monster 1000 series for plasmas, 900 series for LED-LCD.

The probably scammed you by using S-video without your knowledge. Unless they're using 100 foot cables, it's all just snake oil.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
HDMI cables carry a digital signal. Its either on or off. The quality or price of the cable doesn't matter, unless like Blzer said, your carrying the signal 100ft. That is the only time signal loss happens.
Monster cables during the analog days, made a difference.
Back on topic, also with TV's don't forget where you are placing the TV in the house. Picture on Glossy screens are very sharp looking especially in store displays where the lighting is right. Bring it home to a room that gets sunlight that glare will be a bother during the day. Look for Matte screens for well lit rooms.
edit: I didn't see your response Authentic before my post. But yeah if I can snag an $80 cable for $12, I'd do it too.Comment
