Tomba is looking for a good gaming TV & Sharp LED are the probably the best Gaming LED sets around. They offer most minimal gaming lag in Game Mode of any LED on the market 50' or bigger per input lag test done on avs forum

Do you guys think that Black Friday was the best weekend for deals on TV or will there be better deals closer to Christmas such as the Saturday before Christmas?

My guess is you will see good deals all the way til Christmas. If you can holdout, the week before Super Bowl Sunday (last week Jan/1st week Feb) is a great time to buy a TV as the deals will also be good

So do they still make TVs with picture-in-picture? It seems like some cool features you used to see on TVs have disappeared. I had a TV that you could set a timer in 30 second intervals. You set it on the channel you were on, then when you changed the channel it would change back to the channel you were on when you set the time. Mainly PIP though.

My TV has it (Samsung plasma D7000 series), but like most PIP functions, are really only limited to one source and Air/Cable. In other words, I can't be using an HDMI source and have HDMI PIP from another input/source.

Yeah, was easier for TVs to do that back in the day pre-digital and with more people on OTA. Most of those types of things are left up to set top boxes now. We used side-by-side picture-in-picture the first half of the day today on our 5 tuner DirecTV box watching football. Was amazing.

I worked for hhgregg for a little over 6 years and at the end of Febuary all the new models begin to arrive in stores. The distribution center will send all of its remaining inventory out to stores in preparation for the next year models. So usually start looking last week in Febuary till 2nd week in march.

The cost is lowered to the buyers and hhgregg gets very aggressive and will negotiate more aggressively to get rid of inventory. The last year I worked there there were high end models available with over 75% markup. Samsung, Panasonic and LG have the lowest landed cost this time of year.

If your still open to LED/LCD I suggest the Sharp 640U series. Great TV for the price. Offers minimal Input Lag in Game Mode.

now you can purchase a tv with only one hdmi. hdmi switchers can be purchased that allow you to hook up 5 additional soarces. A great place to buy this stuff is.

Cheapest place to buy. Hdmi cables that cost you 60 bucks else where cost you $7-$15.

Check it out and thank me later.

For gaming, plasma is the way to go. I would recommend the 55st50 Panasonic. If you're set on LCD, go with the 55Lm7600 made by LG.

Panasonic. I purchased the tcp55vt25 model 2 years back and it is by far one if no the best TVs ever made. Vt series TVs have very deep blacks and mine has lost a bit of black in over 2 years. Plasma TVs also get better with age. Well Panasonic TVs anyway.

True, but that adds to the clutter. At this point 3 HDMI inputs should be expected in all hdtvs bigger than 32 inches.

co-sign on monoprice but their shipping is high for basic cables. You can do better with 3rd party vendors on Amazon. 6ft HDMI cables are around $2 shipped.

Agree on the hdmi inputs, but there are several high end tvs that are basically the same tv except for on has 2 hdmi and the other has 3-4. The difference being the price of around $200-$300. As far as monoprice, I usually order several items at once so it winds up being better for me this way.

Don't ever settle on cheap hdmi cables. After monsters demo at a conference, if never buy a cheap cable. Monster 1000 series for plasmas, 900 series for LED-LCD.

The probably scammed you by using S-video without your knowledge. Unless they're using 100 foot cables, it's all just snake oil.

No I looked at the TV and made sure it was hdmI sources. The numbers didn't lie either, nor did the 3d quality and gaming quality, especially on the plasma. The more data that can be moved per second the better, and those cheap cables are maybe moving 10.1gbps where these cables are moving twice that. I always choose to use what gives the best quality, but then again, I get a 80$ cable for 12$.

HDMI cables carry a digital signal. Its either on or off. The quality or price of the cable doesn't matter, unless like Blzer said, your carrying the signal 100ft. That is the only time signal loss happens.

Monster cables during the analog days, made a difference.

Back on topic, also with TV's don't forget where you are placing the TV in the house. Picture on Glossy screens are very sharp looking especially in store displays where the lighting is right. Bring it home to a room that gets sunlight that glare will be a bother during the day. Look for Matte screens for well lit rooms.

edit: I didn't see your response Authentic before my post. But yeah if I can snag an $80 cable for $12, I'd do it too.
