Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
With a $2500 budget, why not go a little bigger and still stay near the top of the line?

Last couple TV's I have bought have been on Amazon or Tiger Direct, but since they are charging sales tax in NY now, and my BB will price match, I'm better off going to a brick and mortar.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Only thing I worry about is being too big. My living room is not huge and I'm only going to be about 9 feet away.

Good luck with the search.Comment

64" from 9 ft should be fine. You could even go 70" from 9 ft

Spoiler
I'm 7 1/2 - 8 feet away, and I sometimes wish I had the 64"/65" screen in my room.
I don't think you can choose a screen size that's too big, unless it doesn't fit on your stand, or unless your speaker in front would cut off some of the screen if you went bigger (like me).Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I've had the Samsung PN64D7000 (same as Blzer's TV, only I have the larger model) for about 19 months now and I sit about 9-10 feet away and think it is just fine. It might seem like a little much at first, but you will get used to it real fast. Also, I have had literally ZERO issues with image retention, burn-in, etc.
My TV by itself retailed at $3399.99 (which is what Best Buy was charging at the time and refused to go a penny lower) and I got it on Amazon for $2612.43 with a 3D Blu-ray player, 2 pairs of 3D glasses and 4 3D Blu-ray movies. Saying you cannot find a better deal online is just flat out misinformation. I literally saved more than a thousand dollars.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
In the first month, I did recognize that the ammo ticks and numbers at the bottom right from Call of Duty would show up from time to time, and I eventually got rid of them during the day.
However, I've become much more lenient on the subject matter. Not three nights ago, I accidentally didn't put on the sleep timer when watching Family Guy on Adult Swim, and woke up at 8:00 AM to see the Cartoon Network black-and-white "CN" on the screen. I panicked, and immediately looked for IR. Not a single hint of it. I was incredibly relieved.
IR is not a myth, and it is not gone from new-line televisions. I don't know about burn-in with these TV's, though. My downstairs plasma has permanent burn-in (2005 model and my parents don't have enough care or concern for that). The only one you could truly notice while watching something are lighter sides caused by a lot of 4:3 content. I don't ever let 4:3 content touch my television set, and my letterbox films that I watch are varied enough so that I don't have any issues on the top and bottom.
Anyway, I've owned my TV for 16 months now, and have probably logged close to 2,000 hours on it with plenty of varied content. I wouldn't say that I am IR-free, but I would have to be really abusive to cause it now. It's definitely no myth that you are less susceptible to IR over time.
And 55, Best Buy price matches Amazon now (maybe not the bundled stuff, I don't know). I don't think Magnolia does, but I'm not sure. I got my TV from Fry's. Only shame is that mine is a buzzer, and I'll never forgive the directional noise. It's my only regret about my set.Last edited by Blzer; 02-08-2013, 10:18 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
