I love my panny plasma! The 42 inch is going in a living room with lots of light and the main users will be my wife and kids.

With that being the case, I'd probably recommend an LED. Won't have to worry about the break in period or somebody leaving a static image on the screen.

What's the budget? And is 42" as big as you want to go?

I'd think you want to start the conversation with Samsung if you're going LED.

42 is the biggest that we can go in that space. Budget is around $500to $700. Led or LCD should work fine because the tv will be in a cabinet facing away from the windows.

What about special features? 3d? Smart?

It is a SMART TV with a built-in ethernet port. You have to use a separate dongle for Wireless. 4 HDMI ports.

If you play games....DON'T get a Plasma. These guys keep saying IM and Burn-in is not a problem, but that is a lie. I have a Plasma that has pixel shifting feature and such and it had an image retention with the Cartoon Network logo. You shouldn't have to worry about Network logos causing burn-in. Plasma is dying. In 5 years, you won't be able to buy a new Plasma TV.

I bought a panny plasma because of the guys in this thread and it's one of the best purchases i've ever made. Gaming is amazing and blurays and sports have never looked better.

In the first 200 hours or tv shows and videogames would leave a image retention every once in a while but it cleared up in less than a minute. I've never had a single issue with my Plasma and the 3d exceeded my expectations.

ummm...where to start. A properly taken care of plasma has little chance of burn-in. You'd almost have to go out of your way to make it happen nowadays.

and people have been saying plasma is dying for years. glad you can see into the future and know exactly when it will happen though. can i have the winning numbers to the lottery?

This years line of Panasonic plasma's is the last line they will produce. They may sell them for many years, but the S60, ST60, GT60, VT60, and ZT60 will be the last plasma's they produce.

                                LOL

If you go to AVS, you'll go out and buy a Panasonic plasma tonight. Stop it. There are more than a handful of reason's why plasma's are better. I've had many plasma's in my lifetime and never had a burn in. I think you have a misconception on what burn in actually is. My friend's wife accidentally left his LG plasma on over night with the netflix display on and there is no burn in. Burn in can't be fixed by us. Image retention takes 15 minutes to fix. Image retention is minor and unnoticeable. Read up on burn in and image retention differences.
