Saving that debate for another day, I simply meant you told him he should look at Panasonic's plasma versus Samsung's LED, but made no mention of Samsung's plasma.

Went to BB today they had the sammy 8000 on display, but the vt50 is magnolia and they dont have it in store. The one panny plasma, I believe st?, looked blocky. I am looking at game lag as well as pq and reliability trying to read as much as I can. Waiting for ads to hit Sunday as well.

Don't buy a TV from Best Buy. Seriously. You can find a better deal online from multiple, reliable places.

With a $2500 budget, why not go a little bigger and still stay near the top of the line?

Only thing I worry about is being too big. My living room is not huge and I'm only going to be about 9 feet away.

Last couple TV's I have bought have been on Amazon or Tiger Direct, but since they are charging sales tax in NY now, and my BB will price match, I'm better off going to a brick and mortar.

IMO, There's no such thing as a too big tv (unless it literally can't fit). That's like saying I've got too much money.

                  Good luck with the search.

You can't really get any better deals online, price controls are in place so everywhere has the same price. You will only find different "bundles". Taxes is the only thing that could be saved depending on price.

64" from 9 ft should be fine. You could even go 70" from 9 ft

How is the Image Retention with the new Plasmas? I'm reading some reviews that the VT has some retention issues with static images?

                          Have you seen my bedroom?

                          Spoiler

                          I'm 7 1/2 - 8 feet away, and I sometimes wish I had the 64"/65" screen in my room.

I don't think you can choose a screen size that's too big, unless it doesn't fit on your stand, or unless your speaker in front would cut off some of the screen if you went bigger (like me).

Do you get IR? If so how long does it last and is it distracting? I watch alot of sports and play the Show and Nba2k with occasional GOW.

I've had the Samsung PN64D7000 (same as Blzer's TV, only I have the larger model) for about 19 months now and I sit about 9-10 feet away and think it is just fine. It might seem like a little much at first, but you will get used to it real fast. Also, I have had literally ZERO issues with image retention, burn-in, etc.

My TV by itself retailed at $3399.99 (which is what Best Buy was charging at the time and refused to go a penny lower) and I got it on Amazon for $2612.43 with a 3D Blu-ray player, 2 pairs of 3D glasses and 4 3D Blu-ray movies. Saying you cannot find a better deal online is just flat out misinformation. I literally saved more than a thousand dollars.

I'll be honest, I've taken more precautions to avoid IR than anyone I know/encounter online (that is, I use the screen scroller when I need to, zoom when I don't need static images, and ran slides for the first 100+ hours, etc.).

In the first month, I did recognize that the ammo ticks and numbers at the bottom right from Call of Duty would show up from time to time, and I eventually got rid of them during the day.

However, I've become much more lenient on the subject matter. Not three nights ago, I accidentally didn't put on the sleep timer when watching Family Guy on Adult Swim, and woke up at 8:00 AM to see the Cartoon Network black-and-white "CN" on the screen. I panicked, and immediately looked for IR. Not a single hint of it. I was incredibly relieved.

IR is not a myth, and it is not gone from new-line televisions. I don't know about burn-in with these TV's, though. My downstairs plasma has permanent burn-in (2005 model and my parents don't have enough care or concern for that). The only one you could truly notice while watching something are lighter sides caused by a lot of 4:3 content. I don't ever let 4:3 content touch my television set, and my letterbox films that I watch are varied enough so that I don't have any issues on the top and bottom.

Anyway, I've owned my TV for 16 months now, and have probably logged close to 2,000 hours on it with plenty of varied content. I wouldn't say that I am IR-free, but I would have to be really abusive to cause it now. It's definitely no myth that you are less susceptible to IR over time.

And 55, Best Buy price matches Amazon now (maybe not the bundled stuff, I don't know). I don't think Magnolia does, but I'm not sure. I got my TV from Fry's. Only shame is that mine is a buzzer, and I'll never forgive the directional noise. It's my only regret about my set.
