Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

Been following this post for a while. Very informative but when time to pull the trigger I am now holding off.

Currently I have a 37" Olevia 720p tv that love. I think it looks better than the 1080i Samsung that we paid 2x as much for.

Anyway, with getting an Xbox One I am looking to upgrade. I always try to keep my gaming tv on the cheap, I have a 7.1 surround set up so I really don't care about speaker sound nor do I need a Smart tv.

Came across this tv, HERE, and for 339.99 I think it may work. But I am sure I can wait a bit for 4k tv's to come down in price. But, is 4k going to be worth it with Xbox One or is good old 1080P going to be the standard for a while?

Harlem, that set is a good deal if you will just use the set for gaming.

Actually went off the grid for an Insignia 50 inch LED 120 hz, read the input lag on game mode was fine. Same price, 3 hdmi inputs instead of 1. Here goes...pressing purchase in about 3 minutes.

I also use the set for TV and Blu Ray movies but all sound runs through my Onkyo 7.1 surround sound. Also my pc is hooked up as well. That is going to be the hard part now but I have a plan......we'll see if works. The Best Buy rep didn't think so, I trust me, I think I'm good.

Its is the "Dank" which is my basement bar. It isn't a living room tv. It's a mantown tv.

Insignia ain't bad either. Parts are LG, so that's a good thing. Hope you can get your pc hooked up without any issues

Here are a few pics of my 55XBR850B. Sorry for the iPhone camera pics, wish this thing had a better camera. I'm enjoying this set quite a bit the last 1.5 weeks that I have owned it but I am considering getting the 65" or maybe looking at a different 4K 60" TV since Sony doesn't make an 4K XBR at 60". I did look into the Samsung 60HU8550 a few days ago, but the colors are not natural like Sony sets.

First 2 pics are from a 4K video I took off of the Costa Rica 4K demo video and of course last one is GTAV from PS4.

I've had that tv since july. LOVE IT! Be careful with other 4ks as a gamer I read the input lag is the best on the sony.

It's a great set so far. I'm considering the 65" version or even the Panasonic 58AX800U which is also 4k and reproduces some amazing looking colors and blacks that are close to plasma levels. This Panny also has some very low input lag and includes a display port.

Quick question for those that own a 65"+ set. How does OTA channels via Comcast, DirectTV, etc. look on the larger sets? Granted I am looking at the same set I have now but with 10 more inches and since its 4K the upscaling helps a bit. I was considering getting that Panny 58" but I really like the Sony for how natural that it looks so thinking that jump to 65" will be what I am going to be doing.

Mine looks good. I have Directv. The upscaling on the Sonys is the best there is too. Panasonic was pretty good last year so I wouldn't doubt their upscaler. Panasonics tend to have a very natural picture quality like Sony, where Samsung and LG tend to be very vivid/bright.

The LG OLED Model 65EG9600 Floating Art Slim has me feeling a certain way. I'm leaning heavily towards this tv, but the $12,000 price tag is a little harsh.

Is that 12k for a TV? LOL

Thanks again for your help. I went to BBY earlier and exchanged the 55" for the 65". The magnolia manager gave me $400 off so I was able to get this for $2399. I even tried to use the 10% movers coupon but I was told it wouldn't work with premium Sony TVs as its noted on the coupon. I wonder if I should still try at another BBY and see if they'll accept the coupon she never even scanned it. Getting the $400 off was huge to begin with.

The little I've looked over this set since I bought it earlier there is no clouding or banding but will test further tonight to make sure the screen is uniform. My wife is ready to kill me with all these exchanges I've done the last 2 weeks. LOL!

Those will be much cheaper in a few years but they are nice.

I'm still in amazement over the $2100 I spent in 2006 for a 42 inch Sharp Aquos LCD 60 hz TV. I just bought a 50 inch LG 120 hz for $560 with shipping.

Sony TV's typically won't work with movers coupons. You could try go back and tell them you just got it and would like to apply it, but it's really the managers call. Personally, I would ok it but every manager in retail is different lol. As for the TV, it's an awesome set. A lot of my friends have it and love it. Sony by far outperformed everyone this year in quality. It's amazing how great the upscaler and triluminous system is. By the way, check out Breaking Bad in 4k, it's pretty awesome.
