Well 30ms still kinda high compare to Samsung and it does not fix the ABL which is still a huge issue for them

        OK.

Found the TV I want at a good price.

Samsung 55" 4K TV @ $599.99 plus a $150 Dell gift card included so it's effectively $450; starts at 8am EST on Friday so I'm setting my alarm to get up at 7:55am and refresh the screen to buy it. I think this has to be the best deal out there that I've found.

Shop Dell's Tech Refresh Sale for great deals on laptops, desktops & accessories. Find the perfect balance of performance & price!

Those settings probably aren't gonna get you what you saw in the store. Stores jack up settings to make the TV real bright to compensate for the lighting.

Those settings will get you close to a normal picture as possible. They will definitely not be as bright or as colorful

That's correct, we set the tvs to vivid or dynamic, but if you ask the sales people, we're always happy to change to settings for you to see.

These are pro calibrated but depending on the type of lighting in your room or set can alter a bit. For the most part these will look nice on the KS8000 and 8500. These will not be to dark because that is the beauty of this set that it gets real bright unlike many in the market. a back light of 7 will be plenty bright for most rooms

It will never look like the store because that is murder on the eyes

All the store does is set it on dynamic contrast mode and not touch anything

Those are blow torch modes and are terrible

I feel like someday bringing in my Harmony remote, pointing to a wall of Sony screens, and pressing the menu button to change the picture to a dimmer setting... something more accurate, but I'd like to see customer reactions.

I'm normally not one to call the uninformed as morons, but it's sad how often people bring this home and torch their sets with vivacity. Wanting the best and getting the best are two completely unrelated things with home theater systems, indeed.

This statement is a bit elitest though. For example, I've used the Rtings and AVS Forum calibration settings for many of my TVs. Some look great to me and some dont. For the LG 3D and 4k TVs, those settings have been awesome.

For the Samsung 4Ks that I have, those settings dont look great to me. I tried the above settings for the KS8000 and with HDR they looked very dim. Now in Dynamic mode with reduced brightness, the TV looks great in HDR to me. The whole point in my buying a 4k TV with HDR is for the screen to pop.

                    Maybe its just me though.

I don't think it's just you, I feel very similar. I'm sure others do as well.

Everyone's tastes, exceptions etc are different. The experience is subjective.

I done that before at Best Buy and Walmart. Only people that reacted though were the managers who went scrambling for the only associate there who knows how to operate the TVs to hurry up and fix them before a rep see them.

I never said to use other posted settings. Every television is different. Most of them have the same base readings though, which does begin with making sure sharpness is reduced, temperature is set to warm, post-processing items such as digital noise reduction, dynamic contrast, and edge-enhancement are disabled, contrast doesn't crush blacks or clip whites, etc.

The one thing that is different for most people's sets will be in the white balance settings, and even many of those start with a general rule that on the 2-point white balance scale, green is rarely touched.

General people should not be informed about that kind of stuff, but they get sold to a "brighter is better" concept (which is never a true barometer), and I'm bitter about it because that's partly what phased out plasma screens, and of course Beats by Dre get by with loud and boomy bass and no accuracy whatsoever.

I'm just saying it's unfortunate is all.

I never said you said that. I said you were being a bit of an elitest.

With my TVs, I hate the Warm setting but I bet if I got it professionally calibrated or used suggested settings they would suggest Warm. Its not being sold on a "brighter is better" concept. Its a personal preference on how the TVs look. You may come over and look at my KS8000 and think its too bright. I personally love it.

Same with Beats. I've owned damn near every headphone you can think of. Sony. Bose. Skull Candy. Bowers and Wilkins. Parrot. What are the brand of headphones I own?

I own two pair of Beats wireless headphones. Why? Because I pretty much listen to R&B and Hip Hop and those genres sound great on those headphones. Most people arent audio or videophiles. They look at something and determine if it looks good to them. They hear something and determine if it sounds good to them. Its that simple and thats fine. It doesnt make them morons.

The deal is supposed to start at 8am EST yet apparently it expired at 9pm last night. That's utter junk.

EDIT: CRUD!! I read it wrong, it started at 8pm last night.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

                                Ordered the KS8000 65"...

Hoping it gets here in a timely fashion and there are no issues once it's set up and plugged in. Really don't want to deal with that glue situation where the back of the TV separates some.
