Re: Alcatraz (from producer J.J. Abrams)
I had to miss the episode from a couple of Mondays ago because of a meeting I had. FOX.com wasn't showing the episode until eight days later, so I couldn't watch this previous week's episode either. Now I'm two episodes behind, and I'd be lying if I said I was amped to catch up enough for tonight's new episode somehow.
If it kicks the bucket, that would be a shame. It's difficult to entice a viewer without revealing too much too early in a show like this, but at the same time the show was just a bit too weird anyway. Not necessarily the style, but the characters (like the 63's) weren't all that anyway. I think Abrams could have done better in that regard.
To be honest, I don't think that many people know about Alcatraz anyway. I mean, obviously they are aware of the prison island, but people aren't too savvy about the west coast unless it's Los Angeles. It's not often that we get things shot in the Bay Area, and it's just because there isn't really a vibe associated with it that's movie-/show-worthy. I bet people would have been more interested if it was based on something in New York, as much as it pains me to say.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Alcatraz (from producer J.J. Abrams)
You have an extra week as it won't be shown this week with the race starting at 7PM.
I know about Alcatraz because I went there when I was on a trip to SF a few years ago. So after seeing it in person, it makes the show a little more interesting. I do agree that most younger people don't know much about it. It is up in the air right now, most likely between Alcatraz and Terra Nova. I would like both of those to continue, but Alcatraz would be my pick as I think it has more potential.Comment

Re: Alcatraz (from producer J.J. Abrams)
I don't get the hate for LOST. They explained pretty much everything. No, they don't hit you over the head with a mallet with every single answer, but the answers are there if you know where to look.
Some of the things that are kept intentionally vague are there for a reason: it was show of science vs faith and coicedence vs fate. Like a good novel, you are supposed to draw your own conclusions on a lot of the stuff.
The hate that LOST gets is mainly because people became so invested with their theories and chasing loose threads everywhere thinking it was the true path that they feel burned by the real conclusions.
As for Alcatraz, I agree that they shouldn't reveal too much this early in the show, but in LOST terms, they need their "Walkabout" or "hatch" moment. Something emotionally stinging and memorable and/or something very mysterious and engaging--something the characters have to figure out together...something tangible (beside the whole "how are they coming back mystery"). The formula of the one fugitive per episode thing is already growing thin as it feels more like CSI than LOST.
The one thing that has been annoying me about the show, though, is the contrived nature of how they find the fugitives before the police do...or even stumble upon the fact that they are even back in the first place. Does every person in Alcatraz have a unique calling card on how they killed their victims or something? That's the nature of an hour long cop show that is trying to be more than that, but still, I need more moments like the Warden in the cell with the matches--great character developing scenes with a mature literary theme behind it.Comment

Re: Alcatraz (from producer J.J. Abrams)
So...no spoilers...is it worth watching?
My wife and I loved LOST (though she hated the ending), we LOVE Fringe, but have been screwed with various other dramas being cancelled (V and Flash Forward) and as such are hesitant of jumping in to this. I have them all on the DVR, but wonder...how are the ratings? Have things shifted a lot from the pilot (aka course correction, playing to the viewers, etc)? Will it have a second season?

Does anyone still watch this? With it's horrible weekly numbers I haven't bothered to watch the last 7 episodes which are still on my DVR. Monday is the 2 -hour season-finale. More than likely the series-finale.Comment

I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!
