Well, the fight with El Diablo was a little less than I expected. El Diablo was a Mayorga clone, smoking the cigarette and carrying a machete around. Lights had to take him out early, he has either over trained or he has some health issues now.

Thing I didn't like about his Dad/the fight was that the head butt caused a pretty big gash on Lights eye. So the fight would go to the cards after 4 rounds if it got too bad and it would be a no contest if the fight ended before that. His Dad should have known that and been telling Lights to go for broke. His Dad was still wanting to coach like the fight was going to go 10 rounds.

Then after the fight with a $10 million payday on the table, his Dad wants him to fight 5 or 6 tuneups at age 40? Seriously? His Dad went from knowing the business to completely senile in 1 episode.

I liked the way the fight went.

I have no clue what's going on with his father.

Another solid episode. I think the producers and writers are doing a very good job of making us care about the characters. I also kinda liked the soundtrack during this episode. Some older tunes that seemed to fit the story well.

Still can't understand why Lights Out isn't performing better on the "macho" FX network.

A couple of reasons: 1)Boxing just isnt a popular sport anymore. Its a niche sport with a hardcore fan base. Its not even the most popular combat sport anymore. With the exception of 2 fighters (Pac and Floyd), there are no other people who can have a boxing fight that will be on the front page of ESPN.com. Counter that with Anderson Silva being on the front page of ESPN on the night before the Super Bowl after his big win at UFC 126.

2) I love the show and love that its extremely realistic but it reminds people of all the things they hate about Boxing. Slimy promoters, brain damage to fighters, picking tomato cans for showcase fights. All are things that are ruining boxing.

3) TV Critic Alan Sepinwall has a theory about sports dramas. He says "Sports fans dont like the soap operaish elements of dramas and Drama fans dont like sports". This applied perfectly to Friday Night Lights and was a main reason why the ratings were so low. It applies a little to Lights Out. I'm way more interested in the boxing elements of the show and find myself tuning out to the family part of the show.

Best episode of the season IMO.

People need to get on board with this show. It has some of the best writing I've seen outside an HBO Series.

Copy. I always think of the HBO prison show Oz when I see that guy. He's a great actor.

I hope he's (Ed) on the show at the conclusion of the season.

I think Ed will train him for the fight and be there at the end. He said he tears guys down to find out whats broken and then puts them back together. Right now, he thinks Light's family including his pops is a leach.(I tend to agree). In the end, I think this fight and Ed will tear apart Light's family, but they will all reunite when Light's takes the title. I have a feeling that something tragic will happen the week of or just after the fight.

Ed said Death Row would be scared on Fight Night. I can only imagine what shape he'll have lights in(more mentally than physically) when he steps in that ring. This is going to get good.

Totally agree. I really like the storyline right now. They have just enough outside the ring things going on to make it a well rounded show.

I caught up with this show recently. It's a fun show to watch but, the plot is so-so and it's probably one of the more predictable shows I've seen. I'm hoping Ed brings a new element to the show and were in for some big surprises in the coming episodes.

The plot is so-so? Just curious, what shows do you like? Its predictable in the fact that that we know he'll get another shot at the title, but from episode to episode, I don't see how the show has been predictable.

I like the plot but the boxing itself (like any movie or TV show with boxing) is kind of tough to watch. I expected that going in and still think this is one of the best shows on TV, though.

Other show's I like are The Wire, The Sopranos, True Blood, Oz, Son of Anarchy, 24, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, etc.

IMO, there's nothing terribly wrong with the show and (like I said) it's fun for what it is but, there definitely hasn't been anything groundbreaking (not that I expected it to be) or shocking. Hopefully, Ed shakes things up a bit. Also, I hope Hal gets some more screen time, as well. He's one of the more intriguing characters to me.

Another great episode. This should get interesting. Romeo is right though, Johnny is a leach, but I can't blame Lights for getting uncomfortable with Ed. That guy gets in your head in a creepy way.
