That's, at least, what I think I remember having read.

Storm was not in the original lineup.

      Re: X-Men: First Class

Prior to the forming of the X-Men, Erik and Charles had just a small amount of contact. They met in Israel, debated mutantkind, ended up fighting HYDRA, stopping them from stealing a cache of Nazi gold that Erik made off with and formed the Brotherhood.

Moira Mactaggert was a classmate of Charles at Oxford, they were engaged before she broke it off. She helped form the X-Men as a silent partner from her lab on Muir Island.

Emma Frost was a member of the Hellfire Club during the forming of the X-Men, with the Hellfire Club being an enemy of the X-Men.

Azazel's only interaction with the X-Men was when the X-Men foiled his attempt to bring his army into this dimension. Previously he had fathered Nightcrawler with Mystique (before she was Mystique).

Beast is one of the few who seem to be realistic, he was recruited by Charles into the school before the X-Men were formed and was on the original team.

Havok was saved by the X-Men when he was abducted by the Living Pharaoh, and then defeated by the X-Men after having been recruited by Trask (creator of the Sentinels). After that he joined the X-Men for a while.

Angel Salvadore is a much MUCH later addition, having been saved by Wolverine and brought to the Xavier School to eventually come under the tutelage of a disguised Magneto and convinced to join a new iteration of the brotherhood.

Mystique was completely out of the picture during all this, she didn't have interaction with the X-Men, Xavier or Erik/Magneto until much later.

For some reason I thought I read her name in CMH's post, but it was Iceman I meant to add and never went and double checked the post I was responding to.

I will go check this out because I am a big X-men fan but the originals were Beast (without the fur), Cyclops, Jean Grey (Marvel Girl), The Angel and Iceman. I want to see Angel in action but, oh well.

Well, if they want to link it to the existing movies, they've buggered it a bit by putting Iceman in with the newer class. Unless they wanna play some family angle. But you knew they had to market with Wolverine out of the gates or it wasn't going to go anywhere.

Or is this an alternate reality X-Men, a reboot of not just the films, but the entire story?
X-Men comics continuity doesn't apply here. As far as I know, First Class is a intended to be a prequel to the X-Men movies, not a reboot. In X-Men movie continuity, Cyclops, Phoenix, Iceman, and Angel are in their 20s/30s during the first 3 movies which take place in the current day. Therefore it doesn't make sense for them to be present in a movie that is set in the 1960s. Since Beast's age in X3 is indeterminate, it's possible that he could be far older than the others (like Wolverine).

Unless I've missed something, Iceman isn't in this.

yeah just about all Marvel movies, especially the X-Men series deal in revisionist history when it comes to the timeline.

That makes sense. Now I'm not sure which direction I would have preferred. Maybe they just figure the movie watching audience would be too dumb to figure out that this is the true story of how the X-Men came to be with Cyclops being in his 20s in 1960.

I can see how that would be too much for regular movie watcher to understand.

                        New international trailer:
                        <object classid="clsid<img src=" forums="" images="" smilies="" biggrin.gif"="" alt="" title="Big Grin" smilieid="3" class="inlineimg" border="0"></object>

This is looking pretty damn good. Judging from all of the trailers I've seen, I think this might actually be the best superhero movie this year out of Thor, Green Lantern, Captain America, etc.

My expectation are not high, but as a die hard X-Men fanatic, I'll be there opening weekend. Knowing that they made a conscious decision to set it in their own alternate reality X-Verse, I can just ignore all the changes from regular X-men continuity.

I do expect it to be better then X3, Wolverine, and the two FF films.
