Awesome movie. This is what I expected in X men in the first place. I hope they keep going with this story line, young Magneto is the man.

Re: X-Men: First Class
Going to check this out tomorrow with 2 of my kids. We have a bunch of those free movie ticket deals for this that have been on the 20th Century Fox BD releases.
Without any spoilers, how well does this film fit in with the original trilogy? I understand this is when the X-Men were younger and first starting out.Comment

Re: X-Men: First Class
Wow, that RT rating and the comments here have me excited for this one. I was mostly looking forward only to Captain America but I still have yet to see Thor and of course this new X-Men.
I actually enjoyed all of the original trilogy though 2 is still the best film in my book (not to say that 3 was great, but whatever, I dealt with it).
Love the X-Men so I'm sure I'll like this one."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: X-Men: First Class
When i first saw the trailer for this movie months ago when it premiered, i said this was going to be Batman Begins of the Marvel and X-Men franchise.
With how they reformed Batman and grounded it in realism and gave us a "mature" character, Marvel was able to succeed and carve a spot right next to or even above Batman:Begins
This movie was a freaking mazing. They did an excellent job crafting Erik and Xavier. The movie had a mature feeling but still fun enough to "marvel" in itself with the mutants and its characters. The story was a good set up and origin story for really set off something big, with that being said the movie self contained was also very good.
A couple things sort of bothered me thoughSpoilerAlex Summers!!!!! Isn't that Scott's younger brother in most of the comics. The fact that the movie takes place in the 60s and Alex is a teen sort of implies either that Scott going to be much older or their doing their own thing and introduce Cyclops differently and probably have him younger???
They did a good job with the "age" of the main characters. Charles and Erik were a good age to look their part, Mystic and Beast i can buy, even Banshee; but Alex shouldn't be this age right????
Any thing was Magento's finally costume, sort of campy and cheap looking, but this helmet was awesome

Re: X-Men: First Class
I just got from seeing this and I thought it was one of the best Marvel films thus far. I would say it was on par with Spiderman 1 and X-Men 2, though probably not quite up to the level of Spidey 2. Still, a great film and an awesome comic book movie. The relationship between Erik and Xavier was done really well. It was nice that while they were definitely "bad" and "good" Erik had some redeeming qualities and Charles had some flaws that obviously hindered his mutant movement.
re: mutant recruiting...
Spoiler
I loved the Wolverine cameo. Seriously, that was a nice touch and a cool way to "connect" this to the other films. I also enjoyed the quick RRS/"older" Mystique cameo.
Anyway, I'm not a big reader of X-Men, but this film definitely has me interested so I guess it got the job done. I want to pick up some X-Men comics, preferably the originals or, at the very least, something that isn't too convoluted. I was thinking of just picking up the Marvel Masterworks and starting with the obvious X-Men Vol. 1. Any other suggestions?

SpoilerYes you are right, in the comics Alex is suppose to be the younger brother of Cyclops. I read that they are going to be related but not brothers in this story. I'm fine with it as long as the story fits. They have already made a lot of changes in the series from the previous trilogy so I got used to the new story of the xmen. Even the way Xavier ends up in a wheelchair is different
One thing I speculated while watching the movie was when Azazel came out the first time. I thought to myself that's for sure Nightcrawlers dad and he's blue because Mystique is his mom. Looked it up on Wiki and that's the story.
I'm thinking that will be part of a future story in the movie. I wonder if there are any hints of that in the past trilogy.Comment

Re: X-Men: First Class
So, is there going to be a sequel to this or is this a one-movie type thing?

Re: X-Men: First Class
Great flick. The studio knocked it outta the park with the 2 lead actors. Developed a man-crush on magneto within the first 20 minutes. I didn't think the GFX were noticeably bad at all. I will say I was probably the only one laughing hysterically when Beast came out..he looked like freakin Teen Wolf, but I guess there's really no way around that.
Side question.. who's hotter? January Jones, Lenny Kravitz' daughter, or the CIA agent (girl from Troy)?Comment
