My employer treated us to a showing last Friday. My wife and I loved it, of course! I pretty much co-sign what everyone else has said. This movie was very well done from top-to-bottom. Loved all of the actors and how they portrayed their characters (especially Tom Hiddleston as Loki). Can't wait to see more from Marvel studios.

I saw it in 2D at a Sony Digital 4K cinema. Looked fantastic...

I don't know a ton about 4K right now, but the movie looked great.

Same, my theater showed it in 4K. It was beautiful. I love 4K projectors. If I had an insane amount of money I would get a 4K projector at home.

Is it okay that I cracked up out loud while reading this paragraph?

If possible, I'd very much like to see this tonight. It's getting through my job interview today that I've been fretting about for the past 72 hours.

Re: The Avengers (May 4th, 2012)

The rest of this may sound a like a bash against the movie so to start on a good note, I would give the movie a solid B+.

While I understand the need to establish each character, the first half dragged on a bit too much. Also, I thought the jokes were great, but I felt there were too many of them (maybe because I prefer the seriousness the "The Dark Knight" has). It seemed like every important scene had some kind of joke thrown in. The other thing that I thought was lacking was the opening sequence. After it was over and "The Avengers" title was displayed, I couldn't help but think it was lacking a bit of excitement (possibly because Loki just seems like such a weak villain).

With that said, the final battle alone was enough to put the film in the top 5 of all comic book movies.

I don't know why anyone would go in expecting the movie to be serious; the individual characters can have dark moments/story arcs in their own series' but The Avengers has always been about fan service and making the stories as big and exciting as possible.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Agreed. The Dark Knight is probably my favorite movie because of its dark/gritty nature. But not every single superhero movie needs to be that way, and I did not want The Avengers to be in that same dark style. I think the tone they used for this movie was perfect.

So the only questions left are 1) Will The Dark Knight Rises break Avengers box office record? and/or 2) Will The Spiderman reboot break the new record?

                          I'm thinking DKR does.

I think there's no way TDKR breaks it without 3D.

Wish the record was "tickets sold". Would be so much cooler to compare that way.
