Glad I found this thread. I've been wanting to get into Vinyl for a while now, and think I'm ready to take the plunge. I'll be looking mostly for 70's-90's Rock and 80's-90's R&B and Rap.

I ordered the Run the Jewels bundle today. Houndmouth is coming next week, too.

The Run the Jewels bundle is nice. The two albums come together in a resealable plastic bag and each album comes with some nice swag. RTJ1 has a patch, nice foldout poster/liner book, gold vinyl record, and of course a download card. RTJ2 has stickers, 2X teal 180gram vinyl record, download card, and foldout poster/liner book.

All the goodies that come with these vinyls are, honestly, about half the reason why I buy these things. I appreciate it when a vinyl is pressed and packaged with quality in mind.

On the music front, I'm not sure why I slept on RTJ for as long as I did. I grew up listening to Killer Mike on the Outkast albums and El-P's I'll Sleep When You're Dead I consider to be a modern music masterpiece. Admittedly I can't even remember the last rap album I bought before this that wasn't an Outkast vinyl reissue.

As everybody knows the music is awesome. El-P kills the beats and is fairly more light-hearted than the aforementioned album. Killer Mike's style is smooth and melts like butter. I can see how El-P's style can be grating and a mood killer to some, but I dig it - especially as a weird juxtaposition to Killer Mike's.

Part of what I love about RTJ is how often they're not only on the exact same page, but the same paragraph. El-P cooks up a gangbuster beat, and then Killer Mikes wrecks shop, and while El-P probably isn't as good of a rapper as Mike, he manages to hang with him. The back and forth on Lie, Cheat, Steal is where it's most notable.

To me, they're on Outkast levels in that regard.

I need to step my vinyl hip hop game up so my speakers can feel and fill that low-end.

I was able to order a copy of Right Away Great Captain's repressing of their vinyl trilogy. They only released 1,000 copies of the second printing and it sold out in about 5 minutes, but I snagged one. I'm super pumped as this had been my vinyl holy grail for quite awhile.

Plucked it out of the sale bin at my record store for 15. No hesitation.

                        Re: Vinyl Collectors?

My parents treated me to flea-marketing yesterday. I came back with a decent haul:

                        Spoiler

Zenyatta Mondata is easily my favorite Police album so I grabbed that up quick. Same for X since I've only seen any of their albums twice (the last time was when I picked up Los Angeles). This was the first time I had ever seen Ozzy era Black Sabbath so that never left my hands.

But I think I'm most excited about the Heavy Metal soundtrack. I've seen the movie once and its something that just sticks with you because its so damn quirky, but balances itself out with some awesome bangers.

I realized when I got home my collection is getting to the point where I can't remember everything I have because both Layla and Big Pink ended up being my second copies of each. Not that you can ever have too many copies of either of those and I get excited when I see those out and about. Hell, I have 3 copies of Sly and the Family Stone's There's A Riot Goin' On. If nothing else I can always frame them and showcase em because all 3 of them have great lookin' covers.

                            Re: Vinyl Collectors?

I'm going to bump this up since I've been buying and listening to a bunch of stuff since Christmas.

I also wanted to ask if errors on vinyls do anything to their "value."

My DJ Shadow Entroducing has the same inner sticker on both sides of the record.
My Florence & The Machine How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful has a record jacket has switched two sides (Side A is actually Side B).

I know next to knowing about those types of things so I was just curious.

I upgraded my platter to an acrylic, transparent platter. This reduces static and allows you to place the records directly on the platter rather than having the felt pad in between. It looks great and sounds even better.
