Deb wasn't going to the church to do the sweep herself.

Maybe you guys weren't paying attention, but Deb's psychologist told her to tell Dex about her feelings just one scene before the final scene in the church. Deb knew that Dexter would be at the church because earlier in the episode she asked Dexter to do a final forensic sweep of the church so they could clear it. Dexter said that he would after Harrison's play and that's how she knew where he would be.

This season may have had it's share of plot holes, but Deb showing up at the church certainty isn't one of them.

Well that just leads to another plot hole. Dexter was aware that Deb knew he was at the church so why would he do the kill there? Dex may have become sloppy lately butI didn't know he was declared clinically braindead. Honestly this show can't go 5 minutes without shooting itself in the foot.

As soon as Deb told Dex about the sweep her last words are "don't forget about the church" to which a voice-over says "I have plans for that church". Using the church for his "kill room" pretty much goes along with most of the places he's used throughout the series. The big difference was that this is the first (that I can recall) kill room that he planned to use where someone actually knew where he was. If Dexter was going to use a kill room that was completely safe then how would Deb have caught him in the act? Would she have just stumbled upon it on her drive home or something? This is pretty much how it had to go down.

Well only in Dexter's world does that make sense. Deb could have easily sent Masuka to help him or the intern guy. In fact I would expect that if I had to sweep a whole church by myself. But I know convenient plot points are a given for this show. Just like how Dexter somehow knew that Travis would ask him to inject himself with the needle and that's why he brought an empty vial.

They finally did it. Awesome. I probably re-watched the ending a good 5 times.

I hate how now I'm so torn on this show. On one hand I can't wait for next season because the reveal finally happened and want to see what that dynamic is going to be like. But on the other hand, this season was just nowhere near the standards this show has upheld for the first 4 seasons (and even 5 for the most part). I feel they totally misplayed Deb finding out because of that stupid love storyline. They could have just as easily had her find out without that nonsense. So who knows if things will get better next season as far as the writing goes. I'm optimistic it will, but now I'm stuck waiting until next September/October to find out.

As for this season, as a whole it was very weak. IMO it started off on the right foot, but quickly went downhill mid-season. Travis was by far the weakest villain the show has ever had and I think that's what really affected this season. If it had been a villain as awesome as Trinity or Brian, most of the plot holes or negatives would have been overshadowed.

I've gotta feeling Deb is going to accept the fact that Dex is a serial killer and use it to her advantage to close cases and move up the police force quickly.

Much like most of the second half of this season, I laughed myself through most of this episode. First Dexter getting un Milagro. Then no one seeming to care about a bunch of cubans washing up on shore.

Even with the reveal, this was the weakest finale of the six seasons.(For me obviously).

I don't get it. If you guys knew it would end the way it did, why are you so disappointed? Althoughthe season did have some wtf moments, there were times I was at the edge of my seat... And damn was it a thriller

Has nothing to do with the ending. He's talking about the entire season itself. It was just a major disappointment for a lot of us that have been watching since the beginning.

Overall, I just wish Dexter would end with season 7, but we have another season after that. I thought S5 wasn't the greatest, but now looking back, S6 might take the cake for me. While some of the story arc with S5 I didn't quite care for coming off of a hot Trinity S4 story arc, some of the corny stuff that went on with S6 just didn't do it for me.

I can suspend disbelief, but there was way too much that was sloppy. The one thing that hit me yesterday with the finale was with how Travis walked into the school and took Harrison with Dexter standing a few feet away. Granted he was dressed as Dexter and had his mask, but wouldn't someone question who is this guy walking into that room?

Then if there are all these cops on the roof top buildings, there was only 1 on the roof top that Travis was going to make the sacrifice?

Then in the church, why didn't Dexter cover the whole place up with plastic or the area where he was going to kill Travis? He has done it with all his victims, unless I'm missing something.

I know a lot are upset with Deb finding Dexter at the end, but that was believable to me since she knew he was there and the therapist told her to tell Dexter how she feels.

I guess we will have to wait till Sept.

With that said, I'm a big fan of the show and have watched every finale at the time it comes on except for last night. The whole season has been strange and the times where I thought the show would come back strong, it felt flat the next episode. The cliffhanger we got last night should have been last season's finale. There's still a lot of explaining to be done next season especially with the intern and the hand.

With that said, I'm a big fan of the show and have watched every finale at the time it comes on except for last night. The whole season has been strange and the times where I thought the show would come back strong, it felt flat the next episode. The cliffhanger we got last night should have been last season's finale. There's still a lot of explaining to be done next season especially with the intern and the hand.

Exactly what I'm interested in. The intern setup is EXTREMELY interesting.

I've been a big fan since season 1, but watching this season was a combination of hilarious and painful. I don't think they could have picked anybody worse than Colin Hanks. I just never bought his character and found myself more annoyed by him than creeped out.

And then there's the plot holes galore. Dexter didn't even need that ride back to shore. If he treaded water for another 5 minutes, he would have washed up to shore just like the large identifiable portion of his boat did.

And why did the rest of homicide conveniently wait for Dexter to enter the crime scene(first time in 6 season?). Oh, never mind... it was because Batista was outside talking to a neighbor, about a crime scene he never bothered looking at, and Masuka was busy messing with his camera's settings and taking pictures of the neighbor's shoes.

I used to love this show, what the heck happened?

loved the way it ended, i have no problems at all with that. i wanna mention two things it seems like you guys have missed (or not bothered to comment on)

1 being what happened to Dexter's symptoms from the poison gas attack? i know it was a week for us but the episode picks up the next (early, presumably) morning. and after a (late, presumably) night attempt to kill Travis was foiled by the dizziness, you wouldn't think the symptoms would just disappear completely in a few hours? but okay, i can live with that, because if he would have gotten dizzy/passed out in the open sea he'd be dead probably

2nd thing being, only Dexter and Bautista's sister know he was stranded out at sea the night before? and then they discover that out at sea the night before was the ring of fire, and no victim has turned up? i mean it wouldn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure that one out. lol, and Dexter is the first person into a room with a huge mural on the wall and then everyone else comes in and Dexter is standing there and Batista looks RIGHT AT DEXTER and says "why would Travis have done this" or somethin like that. come on now....

my opinion? they've all known about Dexter since the beginning lol, and none of them care since they all like him and he only kills bad guys. and they just act stupid so they can have plausible deniability in case he gets in trouble lol
