Returned from my weekend vacation to find this at my door. It would have been a lot cooler if the cover wasn't moderately damaged in shipping.

700+ pages, but I have a feeling it'll go by quickly like the Simmons basketball book.

Saw this at Target for $19.99. Couldn't get it though had to buy stuff for the new place. My Bday is coming up in July so I should have it then.

Im about 450 pages into it. They talk about that Bobby Knight/Jeremy Schaap interview where Schaap kept interupting Knight. Bobby Knight hates Schaap. Glad i picked this up.

Just over 100 pages in. Fantastic read.

I like the part where one of the early exec's moved to Bristol and was getting cable hooked up. The cable guys asked him why he wanted cable and he said "I work for ESPN." The cable guy replied saying that station would be gone in a year.

Re: Those Guys Have All the Fun: Inside the World of ESPN (book)

When the author was on the Bill Simmons podcast he said that the paperback would have some things added and removed.

I got the feeling Simmons didn't like his role in the book. I think he pissed off a lot of people with his Tireco comments about MNF. Haven't gotten that far but it was mentioned in the podcast.

I'd recommend listening to it because it's a good insight.

Lol, what gave you that idea? Was it when Simmons said "I wish I had never done the interview because I came across as an ***"??

Re: Those Guys Have All the Fun: Inside the World of ESPN (book)

Finally finished it. Fantastic book. Incredibly interesting from start to finish.

My favorite part was probably the transfer of Monday Night Football to ESPN, and the lengthy saga to find commentators for it.

The Erin Andrews scandal was surprisingly a bore. Nothing I didn't really know already.

And I don't know who bribed the authors, but SportsNation got 2 and a half pages, which surprised the hell out of me. It's just a show. Not really noteworthy.

                    I'm around 500 pages in.

It's interesting and entertaining, but it's not blowing me away at all. I feel like I would really enjoy this as a multi-part documentary instead of a book.

Yeah, they talk about how Jimmy Kimmel would talk **** to him when he was a guest in the booth. He asked Joe how his legs were. Joe didnt appreciate the comment. Seems Joe was not well like by the people running the broadcast, because everyone was asking if Kimmel was going to "mess" with Joe.

Doesn't really surprise me... Joe T. was/is absolutely terrible in the booth. He loves hearing his own voice so much that he never shuts up, and constantly talks over those who actually have something good or insightful to say.

                              Pretty much.

Stuart Evey sounded like a crazy drunk. What a bunch of party animals in the early days of ESPN. Sounded like Mad Men in the 80's.
