Can Bill Simmons Win The Big One? (Grantland.com)

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/05/ma...pagewanted=all

Grantland.com is launching tommorow and the NYT had a nice article on Simmons recently.

With Grantland launching, I hope he can go back to writing 1-3 articles a week with several podcasts mixed in.

Good read. Long as hell though, lol.

I've been looking forward to this site since Simmons first described it and then when ESPN.com previewed a couple of the articles. I just hope ESPN doesn't over-control things and that it also doesn't affect Simmons' column. I've already noticed his lack of columns over the past month or so.

Simmons has really cut back on his writing for a couple years now. I guess he had a valid excuse because he was working on 30 for 30, The Book Of Basketball, and Grantland. I would like to see him write more but I don't know if its going to happen with his podcasting. Podcasting is less time consuming and he's still getting paid the same amount so there isn't the incentive to write more.

Simmon's hasn't had a mailbag in a long time or even a chat on espn.com

Yeah I don't think I've seen a mailbag or chat since last year.

I knew he cut back on his writing (been reading since about '06) but there's been a couple weeks where he's gone without writing anything. Over the last year or two he's really been gravitating towards the podcasts, which I don't mind, but I do miss some of the "types" of articles he used to write. I'm surprised we haven't seen a retro diary with the NBA Finals going on currently.

Thanks for the tip on this...

I became a fan after my recent reading of his basketball opus...

          Def worth a bookmark!

I've only read the intro article by Simmons and it was great.

I've already read an article about how grantland is going to fail but I don't see it happening as long as Simmons doesn't lose interest.

If you listen to his podcasts/read his columns, I don't see why you wouldn't be checking out the site at least once or twice a week.

I saw an F-bomb in the intro, so I don't think ESPN will be too controlling.

Matrix, the site is basically Simmons' personal ESPN Page 2 with columnists picked by Bill himself. But the articles will all be a lot like Bill's current ones in that they will be heavily pop-culture-influenced.

Yeah, pretty much what mKoz said. I guess you could also say it's a mix of ESPN and Deadspin.

The first two Simmons articles were very good (even though I'm tired of people expecting LeBron to do Jordan-like things -- oops, wrong forum ) and I noticed a really good glossary is up as well for basically all of his past articles.

Still have to get around to reading some of the other pieces they have up, but in the long run I think this is going to turn out really well.

Actually read all the pieces up on the site today, really enjoyed all of them to be honest, I'll be visiting frequently if content like they have so far keeps up.

I'm following this project closely - one of the editors, Robert Mays, was a friend of mine at Mizzou.

                        Plus, Klosterman is awesome.

I'm officially on the bandwagon... just spent my entire lunch break reading the article about The National and the L.A. Noire review. Excellent stuff.

That article on Wrigley Field was terrible. From a UIUC attendee, too.

The Bruins one by Simmons was great, as always.

                              I'm loving the site overall.
