    Subscriber Loss Worse Than Expected

Netflix reported 21.45 million streaming subscriptions at the end of the third quarter and 13.9 million DVD subscribers. The company said total U.S. subscriber base by the end of its third quarter was 23.79 million—below expectations of roughly 24 million. Netflix lost 810,000 subscribers between the second and third quarters.

Through the close today, Netflix shares had fallen 60% from their peak in July, before they announced a botched and abandoned plan to split into two companies.
In after-hours trading, Netflix shares were trading around $100, off $18.84, or 16%.

Hmm, that's good for them and the people with kids, but I don't see anything about feature films.

Nice to see they added Alias, though I've already seen the entire series run of it.

            Yeah, I'm in that class.

Heck anymore at my house it seems the only thing being watched on netflix is Disney content. Phineas and Pherb(sp?)/ good luck charlie, some wizard show.

that and an occasional Dog the bounty hunter episode for the wife haha.

Yup the only reason I really have Netflix streaming is for my 2 year old.

From what I understand, Netflix is really trying to focus on exclusive content, not films. Like TV shows exclusive to Netflix. They want to consider themselves a "streaming network".

Film lovers (I am one of them) will more than likely suffer but I kinda get where they're trying to go.

Take it for what it's worth, but I heard a rumor awhile back that Dave Chappelle was considering having a new show on Netflix. Don't know if it ever will come to fruition but that's the route they seem to be going.

Re: Netflix hikes prices for DVDs + streaming

That's all right with me as television dominates my viewing hours of the industry. I rather watch two one-hour episodes of a great television series than watch a two-hour movie.

Would be interesting if Netflix were to get Chappelle to start a new show on their "network." I'm already looking forward to the Kevin Spacey television series that will air exclusively on Netflix. I'm sure they would want to add more series in the long run.

Apparently Amazon made a similar deal with ABC, too.

With the price hike, I dropped the streaming... never really used. Me and my wife have movie night on Friday in our home theater so I couldn't drop the blu-ray.

However, this time of year, I just hibernate my account because with Football(pro and college) + hockey season (Center Ice Package) I just don't have time to watch what is on my DVR much less a blu-ray.
