    Re: Official Rock music thread

Maybe someone here can help out with something that has been bothering me. In the video game Watch Dogs, there's a song called a The Bottom by The Record Low. I dig the track, and could have sworn I have heard it before. Thing is the band has little to no web presence. Even on YouTube the song only has something like 2100 views.

Was this record ever played on college or alternative radio stations nationally? I asked a few friends who all said the band's name and the song itself both sound familiar, but no one could say for sure if they are 100% certain to have heard it before. From what I can gather their basically a local Chicago band who never had any heavy national attention.

I don't know, it bothers me not knowing if or when I heard the damn song before. Stupid to allow this to bother me? Maybe? But I need answers. LOL

This somehow slipped by me. I didn't realize Rival Sons had a new album out. Just came across this song on youtube.

@Madman - Man that is awesome, will be picking that up.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't heard of them, don't have a rock station in my area so I miss out on a lot of good bands. Thanks for sharing!

If you're just discovering Rival Sons you definitely have to check out their previous album Pressure and Time. I think that was the album that I listened to the most last summer.

Will do, is it just me or does the guitarist look like Chritian Bale's character from American Hustle? lol

Rise Against's "Black Market" available to stream for free on iTunes.

I will give it time to grow on me, but right now I'm not liking it. Just like the single they released you can't tell what he is saying a majority of the time because the vocal volumes are on 1 and the instrumentals on 99.

I heard the single... Read it was like older RA. Don't know where that opinion came from, because it sounded like the last two (maybe even 3) albums.

They're okay, but just lack that something that RPM and Siren Song had. I really believe Tim's voice and approach changed starting with Sufferer&Witness. The albums all seem formulaic to me. There are strong tracks, but most of it is just okay.

I'm not here to harp on the band. These guys were my favorite for a time, and I look back fondly on that time. But they changed, and there's nothing to be mad or upset about. I'm glad their message has reached so many ears and the guys have found great success. Heck, my musical tastes have changed as well. I never hold it against a band when they mature or find bigger success.

I'm sure this album will hit the top of the charts and probably get some radio time. I still remember hearing "Savior" on the radio... Rocked my world.

Been in kind of a rut in terms of what I've been listening to recently and wanted to try to branch out a little more, so I decided to come here for some suggestions.

Lately, I've been listening to a lot of Punk/Hardcore/Post-Hardcore kind of stuff (Polar Bear Club, Gaslight Anthem, Brand New, Balance and Composure, etc.) and a lot of Indie Folk-ish stuff (Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, Avett Brothers, City and Color, Ray Lamontagne, etc.) as well as some Indie Pop (Phoenix, Grouplove and the like). I'd like to kind of branch out off of some of this stuff, maybe even try something completely new, so any suggestions you guys have got are welcomed!

It took me awhile to give them a listen because I thought the name was so stupid. Had no idea it came from "Goonies", never had interest in that movie.

Well that's a shame. It's an 80s classic. . That quote is a dumb name for a band though haha.
