I see what they were going for, having Robin, narrate, like the "his story" episodes on scrubs. It just didn't work well, imo

Not a fan of the new Robin relationship. Ted sporting the 3 day beard caught me off guard.

Seems like Barney & Robin are heading down the road of getting back together.

This episode was awful. Completely AWFUL. And utterly irrelevant.

When will they realize that we don't CARE about Marshall's environmental nonsense or Ted's architectural crap?

I thought it was funny. I especially liked the Ewok parts.

Yes, I do like the Ewoks.

            I liked last night episode.
They are doing what they always do, telling life stories of the main characters.
Sounds like you need to let this show go and move on.

              He has a point.

If you think about it in the scope of the show, what kid cares about either of those things? Saw a rerun yesterday of the episode where Lily and Marshall's apartment was slanted. Why should the kids care about that either?

The show still has moments, but it's clear that, while I'm sure they have the mother-meeting planned, they have no idea what to do until then; so we end up with this random stuff.

As a show about five friends, it works...but they painted themselves into a corner by framing it as a father telling stories to his kids because the vast majority of these stories are entirely irrelevant in that context.

That too. I didn't even think about it from the "kids" point of view. I just thought it was a worthless episode from the side of the viewer, lol.

Not to defend the show, as I haven't watched it in a while, but your dad didn't tell stories you didn't care about? At all? I mean, my dad MADE UP stories about himself that were stupid and told them to me. I didn't care about those either. I don't know what happened in the episode, but if he told a story that the kids didn't care about, I can see that as being realistic. Was it a story the viewers wanted to see? Dunno.

There are episodes in every season that don't have anything to do with the mother meeting. If that was all the show was about it would have ended after one week.

As for last night's show I enjoyed it much better than last week. Only negative for me was Robin and her therapist getting together. Even though you could tell they were going down that road I still don't give a **** about him.

Valid point. We've all been told stories we just don't care about, but we sit there and listen because of who's telling the story. I didn't see the very end of this episode, so I can't speak to any possible reaction from Ted's kids (as they only occasionally air those) but I was speaking more from my perspective as a viewer, not any specific on-screen reaction of the kids not caring.

Of course it shouldn't be strictly about meeting the mother because that's too linear of a story, but I think it should be more of a focus than it has been lately.

...also, anyone else hoping they don't go with Barney & Robin? He's better with Nora. It's not just me, right?

Ted is the main character of this show, and so far, he seems like the sixth most important. They're focusing so much on the other 4 (and the therapist), that's he's been back burnered, it seems to me.

Ted's always been my least favorite character of the main bunch, though.

Yeah, but when he's the main guy, it allows the other characters to be funny.

                                I totally disagree.
Making the main focus on Ted each episode would be the end of this show and the writers know it. He is just boring, give me more Barney and Marshall every episode.
