I seems like most of the energy will be committed to the iPhone for the foreseeable future.

I'm with you on Sprint though. I assumed you've upgraded to the unlimited data plan? I've read that analysts do not expect that plan to be around for long after the iPhone launch, similar to Verizon and AT&T
Sucks to hear that about the iPod Classic especially since that particular device really helped Apple dive more into the mainstream and out of a niche market. Pretty much everyone I know owns at least one iPod. I own three myself, but none of them have enough storage space for all of my music which really bites. I do not own a Touch yet though, since the storage capacity on them has always been way too small for me to even consider. If they scrap the iPod Classic altogether than I don't know how they can get by not having anything with a capacity over 64 GB. It just makes no sense.

And I have had the unlimited data plan on Sprint for years now. Since I already have it and if get the iPhone on launch day (it's a lock that I will since I have a Sprint store 300 feet away from my front door) will I be grandfathered in?

Apple is probably banking on the iCloud to resolve storage space issues. If they move away from the original, more hard drive based iPods, to iPod/iPhone with the ability to connect to the internet, using their iCloud service should give you access to all of your music. Plus with other options like Amazon Cloud and Google Music, I think it is safe to say that Cloud based storage is the future.

In terms of being grandfathered in, I would guess Yes. I would imagine that Sprint will subsidize the new iPhone if you sign up for a 2-year contract. I am halfway through my 2-year contract but would re-up if it meant saving money on the iPhone, as long as the plan did not change. At this point, it seems that the Sprint plan with an iPhone is the best package of services available for the cost. My guess is that Sprint is hoping to cannibalize heavy data users from AT&T and Verizon and that the iPhone deals/promotions will run through the holiday shopping craze.

Seeing as my upgrade is very soon, I'm going to be paying attention to this to see if it's worth not going back to a Droid.

I was able to stand a Droid 1 for a couple years (loved it), I figure I could stomach whatever Apple is going to announce for the same duration and reevaluate what android has to offer at that point.

Apple has seemingly outed the "iPhone 4S" name in the latest iTunes beta released Friday, according to this screenshot posted by 9to5Mac.

The screenshot shows specific mention of the "iPhone 4S" using the same image icon as the iPhone 4 CDMA. This suggests that the new iPhone will be called the iPhone 4S and will look identical to the Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 shown on the left:

White CDMA iPhone 4 icon (left) vs. white GSM iPhone 4 icon (right)

It's possible that the image is only a placeholder, but all previous parts evidence has suggested that the new iPhone 4S will look nearly identical to the current iPhone.

Apple is holding its media event on Tuesday, October 4th where the company is expected to launch the new iPhone.

More rumors of the 4S to come in 16gb, 32gb, and 64gb.....

According to 9to5Mac source Mr. X, the upcoming "N94" next generation iPhone is being stocked by Apple in 3 different capacities. The iPhone 4 currently comes in only two capacities: 16GB and 32GB. They are interpreting this to mean that the next generation iPhone will come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities. However, they can't be certain. The three different sizes could conceivably be 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB, or some other combination altogether. All that is known is that the upcoming "N94" model will be available in three different capacities.

However, this isn't the first time we've heard of a 64GB iPhone. In March, a prototype 64GB iPhone model began making the rounds in China.

The owner of this engineered prototype told us that he got it from a source who has a small quantity of these prototypes. They are definitely leaked from Foxconn's factory in Shenzhen. What's more, according to the owner, he believes that the next iPhone will bring 64GB storage capacity to users.
The circulating model at the time was an iPhone 4 design with 64GB of internal storage, revealing that Apple had been working on such a model at some point.

Apple will be introducing the next iPhone on October 4th during a media event held on Apple's campus. So far, there has been evidence of a revised iPhone 4 model, rumored to be of 8GB capacity, and this N94 next generation iPhone which will be coming in 3 sizes. The N94 carries the same overall look as the iPhone 4, but is believed to incorporate a much faster processor (A5) and better camera (8 megapixel).

                      Anybody hear this?

                      http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...795839250.html

Sprint may be the sole carrier for the iphone 5 and are making a 20 billion dollar commitment to apple.

AT&T & Verizon would get the phone down the line.

I have my doubts about that one. I don't think Apple is going to play the exclusivity game. Even if it is timed. The outlash from that would be crazy.

Also, I think the '4S' will be THE phone. No reason why the capacity would be high as 64gb if it was the lower end phone.

EDIT: If it does turn out to be true, Sprint users will pay for it. Say goodbye to those comfy unlimited everything plans.

Im more tied to my carrier than my device, that would be a costly gamble by Sprint if true IMO.
