That's what I was thinking... I could get my parents one, my sister one and myself one, all for about the same price as one iPad.

Great price point, but I agree with this argument that its not really an ipad killer, per se

To just about any criticism of its new Kindle Fire tablet, Amazon has a two-word answer. It doesn't come with 3G Internet access? It's $199. It...

I really just want something I can put my textbooks on, and surf the web while I'm out or on my commute.

In terms of technology, of course it's not an ipad killer. I think that's all media hype because anything regarding Apple will always generate a lot of opinions.

But I think that in terms of tablet sales, many more people will buy this because of the price. Not everyone that wants a tablet needs a camera or uses Skype. A lot of users will buy this because its a new technology that they can afford and that will make Apple sales plummet.

Those guys that complain that this is running an old Android OS, or it doesn't have a expandable drive space are normally tech geeks, and normally they'll end up getting both!

But if they couldn't afford the ipad anyway, but they can afford this, why it would make apple sales plummet? That doesn't make sense because they weren't in the ipad market anyway.

Personally, I don't see a huge sales drop of the ipad, but we'll see. I just see it as a parallel market. The Fire looks great though

Yeah this probably won't make a big dent in iPad sales. This is just going to bring in the more budget-minded market, which isn't exactly the iPad's stomping grounds.

Yes, they may not be in the ipad market, but they will still generalized this as a tablet market. so in their terms.. if the Fire sells 250,000 units, that's 250,000 units less that Apple will sell.

                  And like I reported earlier..

According to DigiTimes, citing anonymous sources, the e-commerce giant is planning to tap Taiwan-based Foxconn Electronics to start producing its rumored 10.1-inch tablet. Foxconn is expected to start shipping the tablet before the end of the year to meet "holiday season demand," DigiTimes' sources say

Not to mention all the other costs you'll surely rack up while buying additional items for the tablet

                      I'm still on the fence...

                      I don't buy things unless I'm 100% sold

One thing I just heard on an NPR story that surprised me is that you only get access to the amazon appstore and not the android market (which is much, much larger).

                              It's an Android tablet.

Unless Amazon locks down the bootloader, which is highly unlikely, some dev will hack into it, create a mod like Cyanogen and it will grant you access to the Android app store.

Everything that you can do on an Android phone, should be fully accessible via this tablet.

Also from my knowledge, the Amazon app store is nearly identical to the Android app store. Only difference is that it is categorize and rated better and is much more cleaner/organized than the Android app store.

Android app store also has alot of spam apps.

There's also access to things you'd expect to have access to: Android Appstore (though no access to Google's Android Market!), Kindle books, magazines, etc. -- all stored for free via Amazon Cloud Storage.
