That is the lowest I have ever seen those. They are amazing even for $150. Only thing with those is they are the straight cable version (M50S). So you have to deal with the longer cable than what you would on the the coiled M50.

Re: The Audiophile Thread
Need some help in choosing headphones. I just bought the Beats Studio 2, but the $300 price tag is hard to justify. I'm ready thinking about the Sony Pulse Elites ($150 cheaper as well).
I'm looking for (in no particular order):
1) Long-term comfort (4hrs plus)
2) Being able to get game audio and chat through the DS4
3) Great sound (able to hear all sounds/instruments)
4) Durability
5) Able to use with iPhone/iPad etc.
Should I keep the beats or go with the Elites? Are Beats that much better (I haven't opened them yet)? That's for your feedback.PSN: xxplosive1984Originally posted by J. Re: The Audiophile Thread
Both are pretty terrible as far as sound quality goes. Sony MDR-V6 or Audio Technica ATH-M50 will be better on that end and cheaper.Need some help in choosing headphones. But honestly, if you were willing to spend 300 on beats I'd recommend you just spend 300 on a better set of headphones. I'll copy and paste what I sent to an email to another person who asked for recommendations
"Here are some things to look at
AKG K550 http://www.amazon.com/AKG-K550-Close...rds=headphones
Beyerdynamic DT770 http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-D...rds=headphones
Sennheiser HD-25 http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD2...rds=headphones
Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-C...rds=headphones
Most important though is doing your own research as sonic preferences tend to differ a lot.
I'd start with reading this so that you'll know what people are talking about http://www.head-fi.org/t/220770/desc...und-a-glossary
Second tip is read the innerfidelity entries about the headphones. The K550's is here http://www.innerfidelity.com/content...aled-headphone but you can search the site for others
He also does video reviews http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYQ_PPvD9Bk
Another resource is head-fi where they have threads on various headphones like http://www.head-fi.org/t/610298/akg-k550-review
and a place to ask questions http://www.head-fi.org/f/7840/introd...ecommendations
It is a decent amount of work but you wouldn't be making an informed purchase if anyone told you "buy x headphone it sounds good"

Re: The Audiophile Thread
Ended up going with the Marshall Monitors. I'm not an audiophile, but I found these to have the sound/design I wanted. Very well built. They have an in line mic, so I'm hoping I can use it to chat on PS4.

And occasionally listening to music while sleepingKenny: Ok Vic, I'm ready for some girl on girl action.
Vic: No Kenny, that's girl versus girl.
Kenny: What's the difference?
Vic: Well, in one, one girl wins. In the other....
Kenny: Everyone wins?!?!

Re: The Audiophile Thread
I just pulled the trigger on this Onkyo TX-NR626. It's gotten great reviews, has 7.2 channels, 6 HDMI, AND it has a phono input. I've needed to upgrade my low end Pioneer for awhile. It had a defect out of the box that caused it to blast static at insanely high volumes randomly but I've just dealt with it. I finally had enough. I get two extra HDMI, Zone 2 support, turntable support, 15 more watts per channel, and overall better sound. I'm excited.Kansas City Royals | FC Barcelona | New Orleans Pelicans

Re: The Audiophile Thread
I've been looking at getting the Onkyo TX-NR616, up until today, Amazon had it for $319, the price went up to $393 now. So I was looking around at other places for something similar, and came across the HT-R2295 at Best Buy for $150. My question for those that know this stuff better than me is, if I get the HT-R2295, am I really missing out on much? I'm only going to use it for watching Blurays and playing PS4 and XBox One; I wouldn't use any of the internet radio or network features that the NR616 has. The main reason I'm looking for a new receiver is that my current one doesn't have HDMI, and the new game consoles audio optical output options aren't very good.

Re: The Audiophile Thread
Onkyo receivers are very reliable. If there's anything Onkyo has been known for it's longevity. Maybe not for features, but for a pure receiver that lasts for a long time. There's nothing wrong with any Onkyo. Judge your receiver by your speakers. If your speakers are 150W RMS, judge your decision off that number. Most floor standings are 120W-150W, but a lot of higher end speakers and older speakers are in the 200W-300W range. If you cut down your speakers, then you're just going to notice slight clipping and distortion, so in better words, your $500 speakers are basically getting used like a $250 speaker would perform. The receiver is the most important part of a sound system in my opinion. When I get a true audiophile in to do a system, they typically want Arcam or McIntosh, and those two manufactures aren't cheap.
Not saying to spend $3000 on a receiver when you have the Klipsch Icon's, but don't spend $100 when you're going to be reducing the performance of your system.Comment

Re: The Audiophile Thread
Yeah my I'm really excited to see what this Onkyo does for me. I have some very basic speakers right now. I originally bought a set of Polk Audio 5 channel surround speakers. Had a lot of power for the size. Then I upgraded my fronts to Polk book shelves. I'm looking to upgrade my center next with maybe some floor standing speakers and moving my bookshelves to the rear. But that's all in the future. My system performs great as it is, but I know I'll want more oomph later.Onkyo receivers are very reliable. If there's anything Onkyo has been known for it's longevity. Re: The Audiophile Thread
I am glad that I found this thread. I am looking for advice on a new pair of headphones. I used to be the guy that was cool with $10 Sony earbuds. Then I got Bose earbuds for a gift last year and it was like I heard music for the first time. Now I am looking to get a pretty decent over the ear pair for about $100. I am not into mixing or anything like that, just love music. I mostly listen to Hip Hop, 80's/90's R+B, Orchestrated Video Game Soundtracks, and a little Rock here and there I had a pair of Able Planet 500c noise cancelling, but they were not comfortable. Here are the ones that I am looking at:
