    Re: The Audiophile Thread

My headphones shocked my ears maybe four times last night (Sony MDR-7506).

Anyone ever heard of this before? I kind of don't want to put them in my ears again until I know what's going on.

I own a set of those and never experienced that. I used them in my home recording studio, only hooked up to my stand-alone DAW.

It's static, and not entirely uncommon with these and the V6 (which are pretty much the same). It's the metal plate that protects the driver, can't say that I know offhand of any solution. Might try some different pads that have thicker driver cover fabric, might try carefully covering that metal plate with clear nail polish. Most I have heard about the phenomena from just live with it.

here you can see the plate protecting the driver:

Appreciate it. Any earbuds in that price range ($80-$100) you recommend?

I mean, those are great earbuds. Gizmodo has ranked them as the best in the $100 price range, they can just be had for a lot cheaper. I know a ton of people who have them and love them. If I was buying new earbuds, those would be the ones I'd get.

                    Spoiler
Thanks, that makes perfect sense. I need to change the things anyway, the foam ripped at the inside from the pads and now push against the drivers instead of resting closer to my ears. Sucks it's my second time changing them as they're a bitch to do, but as long as I know it's from "my end" and not a problem with my receiver needing replacing or something.

Here's the newer version of those for only $50 on eBay. They're brand new in box, and you can get a three year Squaretrade warranty for another $9. Very worth it IMO.

Going to swing by Best Buy after work and see if there's any deals. If not, I'll probably buy these. Thanks!

The Audio Technica M50s are $85 shipped. Never heard 'em, but get great reviews especially for $200 or less headphones.
