The 50k install we had the wife in shock at what the entire set up sounded like. Just to give you guys an idea, it was MartinLogan Summit ESL's, the ESL center, FX2 surrounds (4), 15" sub (2), with McIntosh monoblocks, combined into SonosNet, along with a 4k tv and Sonos throughout the whole home, she was in shock.

Is a system like SonosNet expensive to set up? Whenever I do buy a house I have always wanted to be able to have a house wide system instead of moving my $15 Dell speakers from room to room. Plus I fully plan to have a TV directly in front of the toilet

Let me know when you're ready and I can draw something up for you. My quote will be no joke, I can take care of things through emails. I'd be willing to take care of a fellow OS person as well.

I remember reading a while back that Monoprice had the same 5.1 system as the Energy Take Classic 5.1 system, but selling it for $150-200 less. IIRC, They bought them from the same maker that Energy did. Energy sued and Monoprice agreed to stop selling them.

Oh that wouldn't be for a while unfortunately. I can't say I am too familiar with SonosNet. I was just assuming it was a system that allowed one audio source to distribute it to each room in a house. Feel free to explain

There are numerous things you can do with Sonos. You can either buy their speakers and use them as audio sources for separate rooms. You can provide power for two speakers connected to SonosNet. You can also provide access to SonosNet through a receiver with a device. If you're just using the Sonos speakers, all you need is the Bridge. The Play:5 is $399.99, the Play:3 is $299.99, and the Play:1 is $199.99, with the Bridge at $49.99. If you wan to connect two speakers to SonosNet, the Connect: Amp is what you'll need. It is $499.99. If you want to connect a receiver to SonosNet, it is just the Connect, which is $349.99.

Sonos provides a lot of great audio opportunities that work very well, and are easily operated. Sonos is the future of home music for sure.

I've got a pretty entry level system. It's a 5.1 channel, that started with these as my fronts and my rears, this as my center channel, a Pioneer VSX-521 receiver, and a Pioneer SW-8 sub. I replaced my fronts with a pair of Polk T15's.

My receiver has been **** from the beginning. It'll randomly blast loud static, and sometimes sounds all garbled with electronic interference until I just turn it on and off. I'm eventually going to upgrade my center channel, move my bookshelf speakers to the rear, and replace the fronts with a pair of towers. What would you all recommend for a replacement receiver? I'm not sure what I want as far as a price range goes, I just want to future proof myself without spending a ton.

Pioneer Elite, Denon In-command, or Yamaha Aventage are all GREAT lines of receivers. Pioneer is best for music, Denon is best for home theater, and Yamaha provides the most inputs for the price, more for people with older devices.

I had never heard of Sonos before.

There was a Sonos commercial during American Horrow Story tonight... Guess it's a sign.

It's good stuff. Go into any retailer and hear the speakers for HiFi or head into a Magnolia store and check out the Playbar and sub. Sonos is quite impressive for what it offers.

So my wife and I are moving into our new house on Wednesday, we opted for surround sound speakers installed in the ceiling of our family room. So we have this outlet in the wall to connect to the speakers...

My question is, what cables will I need to connect from there, to this...

Or will we need to invest in a new receiver? (which means this one and the speakers that go with it will go in my man-cave! )

Wall outlet looks like banana plugs (though a little tough to tell from the small image).

Receiver looks like a proprietary connector, HTiB I assume.

You have two options, if you can solder you can probably find a way to make new cables (doubt anyone would sell them, though not impossible), or start enjoying your man cave HTiB.

Agree with Burns. I would go ahead and invest in a 5.1 receiver. If your outlet indeed requires banana plugs then you'll need a set of these for the speaker wire: http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-1094...s+for+speakers

Any good Black Friday deals for surround sound speakers? Preferably around $300 or less. I noticed this one, got decent reviews.

The Klipsch set up is nice for a budget speaker system. Keep an eye out for the Polk Blackstones, and the Klipsch Quintets. Energy also usually has some good deals around Black Friday.
