    The Audiophile Thread

What kind of music do you listen to? Do you prefer clarity or bass? Do you plan on wearing them for more than a couple hours at a time?

Best bang for the buck headphones that I’ve tried are Bluedio headphones. You’ll find a lot of versions but I personally tried the ufo and victory headphones and those rock my brain and they’re around 100-150. Not the most comfortable but they sound excellent for the price

I listen to many different genres of music. On average I might use them for at least several hours a week (I usually just listen to music for awhile before going to sleep).

I don't think I really have much of a preference between clarity and bass. Maybe abit inbetween? Some songs I like mostly for the instrumentals, others for the chorus, and others for the song itself, so it's not one specific thing I look for in listening.

Okay, for sure research Bluedio, they are popular on amazon and there are YouTube vids reviewing them. A lot of different versions too to pick from within your price range.

I also think Sony headphones are very good if you like bass. The mdrxb650bt are solid and comfortable.

The one you posted look solid too and there’s a ton of options to look at if you’re not so picky on audio. Skull candy is also one I recommend if you love bass and are cheap.

Personally I’m starting to be a headphone junkie, I have 8 that I use in different situations.

Bluedio does seem to have lots of different kinds like you mentioned.
Cheapest one I found were the T2s (it claims 40 hour battery life)
          https://www.amazon.com/Bluedio-Bluet...=operasport-20

The August one I saw looks good because of being able to use bluetooth and wired versions. So if the battery one day doesn't hold its charge very long, I can still use it like a wired headset (or if wire breaks, that part is easily replaceable). I'm probably gonna lean more towards a headset with that feature on it.

Price range is probably up to $75USD. What should I be looking for in terms of choosing the best one in that price range? Obviously cheaper ones in the $20 range won't be as good as one that's $50, which won't be as good as one that's $100 and so on.

I went through Amazon and found several I believe are good(they have the bluetooth and wired options, along with having 2-3 hour charge and 10+ hour battery life, all with good reviews and good prices). 2 are August(1 is the one I showed you, the other is the previous version), 2 are Bluedio(1 being the one in this post), and then 2 other kinds. Seeing how you're a "headphone junkie", perhaps you could check out their pages and let me know what you think of them? I could look at reviews of all of these on Amazon, and there's always gonna be really great and bad reviews no matter the item. Some say it's great, others will say it sucks/broke/didn't charge and so on.

            Re: The Audiophile Thread

My advice is to go to YouTube and find reviews from audiophiles for each model, there’s always a couple. It’s hard to say by just reading reviews and without trying them. That’s always my go to now buying products, just watching review after review.

Another thing I’ve done is order the top two headphones and just try them out and return the one you don’t like. I did this when I was between the Bose and Sony noise cancelling headphones and went through all the music I like.

Anyone know of good gaming headphones? I'm looking for over the ear headphones and have no clue what I should be looking for.

These were just reviewed as pretty good (90 out of 100) on PC gaming. MSRP $119.99.

                  Re: The Audiophile Thread

So I'm actually looking to sell my Astro A50's and get a pair of open-back headphones called the Audio-Technica ATH-R70x (not a gaming headset, just head phones). PM me if you're interested in the A50's.

The main reason is because although I love the A50's, I don't feel like I'm getting my money's worth with them because I'm not using them to the full potential that I will use these other headphones. If a gaming headset costs some money, the several factors included in its cost likely have to do with:
                  • Brand name (have to get that one out of the way first)
                  • Newness
                  • Sound quality and capability (surround? bass extension? etc.)
                  • Microphone quality
                  • Wireless/Bluetooth compatibility
                  • Accessibility with devices
                  • Durability/build quality
                  • Comfort
                  • Internal & external noise-cancelling abilities
                  • Sound profiles (EQ'd for gaming)

The ones that I have bolded are ones that don't matter to me in the sense that I don't need these A50's with these things in mind. I'm looking to get headphones where I can play games, watch TV and movies, listen to music, etc. I really hardly game anymore, and when I do I'm barely playing online. Even then I hardly talk online at this point. If I do man, I'd rather just get a cheap headset this time around because I am really not giving this thing its value.

Plus, I'm not giving some of my other equipment its value. A couple of weeks ago I rented a movie and had to watch it late night, so I listened to it through my A50's. Since they can't connect to my receiver, I had lip-sync issues. I realized that I have a $2000 piece of equipment lying there waiting for headphones of heavy impedance waiting to be jacked into. That's why I want to spend the same amount of coin on a pair of decent open-backs so I can sell off the gaming headset.

I'm willing to bet that my headset easily has under 50 hours of gaming usage driving the cans themselves. When I first got the headset, I used it to record math lecture videos on YouTube, so only the mic was in use at those times. I have since then gone to three different microphones, and my headset normally collects dust (in a good way for someone buying it, meaning it's still very much "like new"). I simply just don't use it enough to justify its purchase, great as it is. So I'm hoping I can get something like $150-$200 from them on Craigslist. Anyone interested in getting a gaming headset couldn't get any better value than that.

Open back headphones are the best. Watching movies and listening to music are a dream on my Sennheiser hd650. I got emotional listening to music on them, rarely felt that way with other headphones. I think you're making the right decision Blzr, and AT always makes great headphones.

Thanks. I still have my Sony MDR-7506 Professoinals, but:

                      1) They are closed-back.
                      2) I need to get better fitting earpads than the replacements I most recently got.
                      3) Most importantly, something is broken in the wiring and I'm only getting small bits of audio in the full-range spectrum. Basically, they're broken and need repair, but just in the wiring (and I don't know where to repair them).

I also want to try some that are higher quality that maintain that flat response.

That sucks about the wiring, I'm pretty sure you can get them fixed by Sony but you'll have to look it up. What's nice about the Sennheisers i have is that the wire is replaceable which I wanted since my dogs from time to time will chew up wires near my computer.

Have to admit.. open-back headphones was a new term for me.

A quick Google search said this:
Open-back headphones, of course, let this sound largely go free. In general terms, closed-back headphones are designed to isolate you from the outside world. It's just you and your music. The downside is the music is a lot more “in your head” sounding
That being said, what makes them (objectively) better?
My gut reaction would have been the other direction. I would have thought that being able to hear the world around you at the same time would be distracting and make the sound worse, no?

Well unless it's possibly a safety precaution of yours, but otherwise you are correct: it's best to use them in an environment where you can't hear others and vice versa. So for instance, I won't take these on an airplane with me. I'll take earbuds or my MDR's if I ever get them fixed.

I love the sound of open-back headphones though. I just haven't mustered up the cash to own any, but I have over $1000 in Best Buy gift cards and just thought now is a good time to go ahead and pull the plug on that. Next is probably a camera that can best the pocket camera I've had for like ten years.

For me the reason they are better, it creates a much bigger sound stage than closed headphones. It's like sitting in the room with the band and you can feel where each member is. It feels like it surrounds you especially with a great singer.

That's why I feel they are also great for gaming, it becomes very immersive. Same with movies.

There are some cons though. Like if you love bass in face type headphones, they aren't the best but really nice ones still have a nice rich bass but not headshaking bass. The highs and mids is where it shines.

You will also need an amp or receiver to power them. Plugging them directly into your phone won't sound great with most openbacks. Also others can hear what you are listening to but outside noise is not super noticeable unless its really loud. Besides I'm enjoying them in my computer room where I'm not close to other sounds.

Another thing I’ve done is order the top two headphones and just try them out and return the one you don’t like. I did this when I was between the Bose and Sony noise cancelling headphones and went through all the music I like.

I decided to get the T3+. Almost 50% off on Prime Day! In Canada they have Bluedio on pre-Prime Day discount on Amazon, don't know if it might be on sale after 3pmEST in other countries, but if it is and you're looking at getting another pair, most are over 30% off.
