    Re: The Audiophile Thread

Does anyone have any experience setting up a sound system for a small band for a small venue like a restaurant?

I'm going to be having artist come by my restaurant every week and i figure i should get my own system.

It doesn't have to be crazy, i'm thinking a 1000 watt speaker, maybe a little bit more but other than that i don't really know what else i should get. I know i have to get an amp and some microphones but i'm a total newb when it comes to things like this.

The band will be playing on a tiny stage directly outside of my restaurant, mostly acoustic artist and figure i need some lighting as well.

Also got a Sonos playbar and woofer this week. Similarly pleased with the quality, and the ability to stream Spotify to it via WiFi is something I'm doing a lot. Was a little difficult to set up though, but once I powered through that it's been smooth sailing, and it sounds great.

I don't have the Sonos playbar or woofer but have 2 play 5s and 2 3s and 2 connects. Love the sound quality and ease of setup. I compare Sonos to Apple. Overpriced? Probably, but their stuff just works. Set it and forget it.

My only complaint was not having integrated Alexa functionality (there was the Aux port workaround) which they have addressed.

I'd just go into a local audio shop (not guitar center) and ask them to help you out. You can always rent something and see what works before buying.

Since the Summer I've made a committed effort to get into jazz. Initially it's daunting because it's such a giant, but I've been slowly peeling away the layers and finding more and more to appreciate. Along the way I've picked up a handful of awesome albums:
            Spoiler

One of the best parts is the range it runs through my speakers. So many different nuances, shifts, tones, and highs compared to the rest of my library.

My goal is within the next year or two to upgrade my speakers. My Audioengine A2 are great, but for trying to fill multiple rooms they're not the best though they've been adequate thus far. I'd like something along the lines of Klipsch's The Sixes since they also have bluetooth functionality.

How many people here have the Bose QC35's? I'm thinking of selling my Beats Studio 3's and going for either the QC35 or Sony wh-1000x m2.

I tried both and the Sony's have better sound and the functions on the set are really nice and more advanced than the Bose. I also read up on the app and it's much better than's Bose's app as you can set sound preferences and adjust sound settings. You would think it would be a no brainer to go for the Sony's but the biggest difference was comfort. The Sony's are comfortable but they are no match to the Bose. Noise cancelling seems to be the same for both.

I can only go by what I tried in the 20 minutes of using both and I can tell i would get ear fatigue faster on the Sony's than the Bose. My brother has the QC35's and says they are perfect for traveling as you can wear them for hours without having fatigue.

I'm looking for input from guys who have the bose or the sony's and their experience with using them for long hours.

A little late, but SVS Sound is having some great outlet sales today. If you are in the need of a subwoofer look now!

Wow, yeah you could get four PB16-Ultra's for under $8000. Talk about "one-and-done" in the right way!

I'll hold off until or unless they decide to ever go for 18" drivers.

I went with the Sony wh-1000x m2 since they were 100 bucks cheaper than the Bose here in the Philippines. Awesome noise canceling headphones . The technology in it is pretty awesome and the ANC is stellar. They also sound better than the Bose after testing my dads set. Definitely recommended if you need traveling headphones.

Anyone know a thing or two about setting up surround sound speakers?

                      The setup I currently have

                      Surround Sound Receiver:
HDMI cable from receiver into the TV
RCA cables from receiver into cable box

                      Cable Box:
RCA cables connecting receiver to cable box
HDMI cable from cable box into the TV

Which seems ok. Obviously it's best when watching movies. Regular TV shows I don't think the 5.1 setup is as good.

                      Is that setup good?

Also, when watching things not from my cable box(either something like a USB plugged into the TV, accessing Netflix app directly through the TV, or using Chromecast), the sound simply comes out of my TV and not the surround speakers. Is there something with the connection I need to change?

When I had mine connected to a receiver I had one HDMI cable from the TV to the receiver then HDMI cables from my devices to the receiver.

I bought a Sonos sound bar for my video game room. I recently bought a X900E TV after my KS8500 crapped out after 13 months. Anyway I’m considering taking it back for a Bose sound bar. Looking for some direction since I’m new to this sound thing.

Probably should have asked before the purchase but optical seems to have limitations vs HDMI.

I would've just waited until the new one comes out

Why are you unhappy with it? Do you have the sub also?

Trying to find good headphones, preferably for under $100. I know most say Bose is the best, but to me, I can't justify paying $300-$400 for headphones. I still want good quality though, especially since I use it for things like Spotify(premium)

An issue I eventually run into with past wired headphones is that it eventually breaks (the wire near the jack, usually due to it being bent after months/years of use).

Been looking around, and this is a quick one I found that seems nice.
                                https://www.amazon.com/August-Blueto...=operasport-20

Bluetooth and can also connect with a wire if needed.

                                Any other suggestions?
