Re: What's good to watch on Netflix And Other Streaming Platforms

Not a show but a heads up:

Netflix will soon kick off a test letting primary account holders pay an additional fee for users outside their households.

“According to the Netflix terms of service, a customer’s account “may not be shared with individuals beyond your household.” Last year, the company ran a limited test prompting users to enter their account credentials, as a way to nudge freeloaders into paying for their own accounts.

Now, in an upcoming test launching in three countries — Chile, Costa Rica and Peru — Netflix will let members who share their accounts with people outside their household to do so “easily and securely, while also paying a bit more,” according to Chengyi Long, director of product innovation at Netflix. The new options will roll out in the next few weeks in the three countries (and may or may not expand beyond those markets).”

Bold move, Cotton. Will be interesting to see where this goes.

I honestly don't know why this isn't a requirement for every streaming platform in existence. Makes total sense to me.

Sucks we may not be able to abuse it as much, but that's proper business. Do you realize how many customers these companies lose by not getting everyone to subscribe?

I’m sure a lot. To me, I pay for 4k and to use Netflix on 4 screens at once. It shouldn’t be any of their business where those screens are. But I also split the services with my parents, none of us use them enough individually to justify paying separately. HBO Max is probably the only one worth it for me, so it won’t be much of a loss for me personally.

Business is business, it's all about maximizing profits. Abusing a subscription is one thing but allowing my daughter to use the Netflix account at college isn't abusing the subscription, but technically she's out of the household.

I didn't even think twice about how they're doing it. How are they capping it to the household? By device? IP address?

If they did it where they knew it was to be at home and you could tie it to one device (like a laptop or phone), I think that would be acceptable. Then adding other devices or households at $3/month would be ideal.

Either way, this isn't in the U.S. right now. I'm sure it should be soon if they feel they are increasing revenue from it.

Just like all the streaming TV services with local channels. You basically have to be in the billing or home location once every 30 days. Anything with a physical device or app may require you to connect that device to the same network to reset the 30 day clock.

Generally sharing in the same city will be hard to stop. They can easily stop the longer distance sharing though.

I use my in laws Netflix account. If they do this I’ll just sail the high seas. I’m not paying for Netflix.

Yeah it was good. Don't know why people were complaining he took his helmet off. There was no law or lore stating spartans can't take their helmets off.

I thought it was ok but wish they would’ve done more than 4 episodes. Seemed like they crammed a lot into them without really explaining much.

I want to watch some of the DC animated shows that's on HBO Max, especially Justice League. The one from 2001 is a bit cringe how but the Flashpoint Paradox looks interesting.

Curious if TC has any thoughts on this, if he frequents this thread much.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.
