Now Cable is like buying a $70 game with features built into the game that you have to unlock via DLC/Microtransactions (ie: Paramount, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Apple, Disney, HBO, etc)
    That's basically it.

Pay $5-$10 for different features on a sports game vs $70 for the whole game.

If all you care about is playing exhibition games. That's $10. But you want to play online too? $10. Have the ability to download roster updates, another $10. Want to change settings/sliders, $5. Franchise/career modes? Another $10.

It'll get to the point where getting the full experience is cheaper just buying the game vs paying for different things to get you to that point.

Shows/movies/sports are so spread out, depending what you watch, you might just pay for everything in the end which costs more.

People used to complain about having to pay for things they never watched now we have to pay for anything we want to watch.

Love it, and I think so true...and I like it better this way.

People wanted to pay $10 for one service that had every movie and show ever on it and are now mad it didn't stay that way.

Honestly if someone is patient the way to go is... DVD rentals. Yes, that still exist. $15/mo for 2 disc at a time and you get most new/old movies and shows. GameFly even does 4K Blu Rays. Netflix DVD is also there. It's not tied to licensing so both have a tonnnn of content.

I have Gamefly and that's something I have done. So movies aren't an issue for me. Just wish Gamefly had complete Series DVD sets. I would rather wait until the Series is done and binge it and return it. I just don't like the idea of paying $50-100 to watch a complete series once and never watch it again. I did that before and don't know where most of the disc are.

I cut cable couple years ago and I don't miss it. I have been taking advantage of sharing logins. But for me, I can go without most of it. I can rely on Gamefly for movies. Nowadays, it's about 2 or so months from theater to DVD, so I'm patient. I can even go without tbe Series. At worst, I can wait until it is over and do a free trial and binge it. My.only thing would be sports.

I knew once Netflix became a big thing, most of the networks would want a piece of the pie and have their own service. For me, I can go without most of them because I wouldn't want to pay a subscription to watch one main Series. I will get one if it comes attached to something use. Like I got Paramount Plus because it came attached with Walmart Plus. That's what I'll probably do this, which is finding sales for the subscriptions

Watching Suits, which I enjoy, on Peacock. A particular episode in S2 involves perhaps the dumbest writing I've watched.

I’m a Suits fan but even Rachel’s looks couldn’t make that scene palatable.

Idk, movies/shows through the years have taught me that women only ever fall in love with/desire men that they hate/dislike first, so seems right in line with that lol. It's not a healthy narrative overall, but oh well.

I appreciate the sexual tension angle but make the dialogue somewhat believable. This wasn’t Sam/Diane quality.

I'm just buying things off Amazon prime video/vudu/itunes and building up a digital library

The more accurate statement would be:

People used to complain about having to pay for things they never watched. Now we have to pay extra for things that we want to watch and still pay for those that we don't want to watch.

Not counting the cost for prime video, assuming the person already has Amazon prime annual subscription, then there are 8 other major streaming platforms each with their own exclusive properties in terms of shows. They total out to about $80/month, which was basically the cost of cable before we started having this piece-meal options. And of course, all of those major platforms combined still don't get you everything and there will be certain sports and other popular programming that is not included, and so you will have to get cable or something like YouTube tv on top of all those others.

You can of course create your own package now and save a lot of money vs the old structure, if you only care about a single show,, but I'm betting that there is a ton of crossover with people wanting to watch the Witcher (Netflix), the mandalorian (Disney+), the boys (Amazon), the last of us (HBO max), plus a number of channels/sports that are only available if you buy some form of cable/cable alternative (YouTube tv) or specific sports package like MLBtv. Nothing about the current system saves people money. If it did, then the companies wouldn't be doing it, just like microtransactions in games lol.

I've always thought the big advantage to streaming is you're not locked into something.

Cable, you were always locked into a one- or two-year agreement. Streaming, you can sign up for a month, cancel and then sign up again later when there's something else you want to watch.

I pay for YTTV every month, but hit and run on the others - and even then it's mainly just Disney+ for the Star Wars/Marvel shows.

Yeah, as long as you're not obsessed with following the latest greatest trending thing, it makes sense to just binge each service month to month
