“The Bear” has been getting some great reviews. Has anyone watched it yet?

    It’s on “FX On Hulu”.

I watched the first episode and was more impressed by the realism of the restaurant environment than the comedy aspect. The dialogue bounces around like a pinball inside the machine so you have to pay attention. I had to go to close captions a couple of times to keep up. I'm not giving up on it though.

NEWS: Two day old news but Evil was renewed by Paramount+ for a fourth season. Pretty much guaranteed considering the Kings, the acclaim, and the ratings but it's nice to make it official.

It’s not really a comedy. There’s some humor in it but I don’t think I laughed out loud once the whole show. It’s basically Lip becoming a chef. Shameless was probably funnier even.

Oh, I was thinking the first show was an outlier. When I first read the reviews I was hoping for an old school Always Sunny In Philadelphia/hybrid. Might have to reassess...

Yeah it’s definitely not like IASIP. I’m not even sure what I’d compare it to. Better Things maybe?

I like Evil but it seems every episode is like the last. Unavoidable I guess.

If that was the case I'd probably stop around episode #3.

It is slow paced but the characters (antagonists and protagonists) work well together. The only repetitive factor is 'the case of the week" format but that moves the show along.

It’s great so far. It’s stressful af though. If you ever worked in a kitchen it’ll give you some PTSD [emoji23]. I do kinda miss it though, when you have a kitchen running tight with a great leader it’s beautiful.

What's good to watch on Netflix And Other Streaming Platforms

Been going binge crazy the last couple of weeks:

Swagger: KD's show on Apple TV+. Is the show great? No. Is it good? I don't know. But is it very watchable? Yes. Part of it is just because it feels so KD being about a basketball phenom from the DMV, but they did actually surprise me with where they went with some characters. Interested to see where the next season goes at least.

Stranger Things S1 and 2: Finally took the plunge after a friend made me watch the second half of the S4 finale with no context lol. Season 1 was pretty good, season 2 less so but still good. I just hate when shows give you a team of characters that you like together and then break them up. I get why it has to happen for story reasons, but I hate it. Dustin and Lucas are my guys.

Warrior: Rewatched both seasons of this for...some reason, I don't remember why. It's still amazing though, not a lot of shows where I can watch martial arts like this, and I like the way they handle the characters talking in Chinese, translating it to English when they're around each other and just showing the Chinese when they're around Americans who can't understand them, even having them speaking pidgin when they actually speak English, I just think it's pretty creative. Obviously the fights go crazy, Joe Taslim is that guy.

Severance: Just got better every episode and then the finale was 40 minutes of chaos, amazing. Zack Cherry is a treasure, put him in everything.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds: What's there to say? Star Trek is back and they're doing it right. Curious to see how they'll handle upping the stakes given that we know 75% of the cast is still around when TOS hits but they're nailing it so far.

Barry S1: I don't know why I waited so long to watch this but it's amazing. The premise of the show is so ridiculous that it's insane how they're able to pull so much comedy and drama out of it and alternate between them seamlessly. Watching stuff like this, Atlanta, Better Things, Master of None, the Louie legacy is going nuts. I feel like it is all of these show's fathers, Better Things obviously but just the way it'd go from making you laugh to making you rethink your life, dramedies for the win. Excited to get caught up. Its also easy to watch and appreciate because it's a hard 30 minutes just packed to the brim. I could watch an entire season of Barry in the time it'd take me to watch just the last 2 episodes of Stranger Things S4.

Players: Maybe my favorite show of the year. Only 7 episodes in, desperately waiting every Thursday for a new episode. I've watched every episode 3 times already, just dump the season Paramount, I'm dying here. American Vandal (Netflix's best live action show, word to BoJack) was making fun of stuff like Making a Murderer, and this is making fun of stuff like The Last Dance. It's so expertly crafted, and the performances they get are so natural, you almost forget it's all fake. I can't imagine how much effort it takes to create a mockumentary like this, I'm in awe. They built CreamCheeze up as this almost joke character, and then so quickly made him into a person you can relate and understand to. The last episode was just awesome.

That's my take too. It got more intriguing with each episode and the finale was bonkers. However, they are taking their time getting season two off the ground.

I've been watching Search Party on HBO Max. I stumbled upon it searching for something new after finishing the past season of Righteous Gemstones and gave it a try mostly because the main character is played by Alia Shawkat, Maebe from Arrested Development.

What a crazy and dark humorous story. I kept thinking it was going to derail for me but it's kept me invested.

I definitely prefer a short series that goes out on top. So many shows I once loved (Suits, The Good Wife, Californication, Shameless, etc.) just kept running until they had to be Old Yeller’d. 4-5 seasons with a consistent well told story is perfect for me.

Agreed. And I think Barry lends itself well to this.
