As someone who has worked in the mental health field for quite a long time, you really don't need to try to convince me of that. But this is a woman who had MILLIONS at her disposal not to mention probably countless people who reached out to her and lent her their support. I would imagine that many of them attempted to encourage her to get and stay clean and offer an avenue to do so. This is not a medicaid assistance with 7 kids, no husband, and having to go on a waiting list for the nearest clinic or rehab facility kind of a lady.

What you're saying isn't necessarily untrue, but you know very well that many people could tell you that they fought that fight and took responsibility. There's a common element to these mega-stars in terms of giving up their independence and will because, let's face it, in general it's easy to have others take care of your affairs.

I'd rather see a tribute to someone who contributed to the profession and in turn showed compassion to others than honor selfishness and irresponsibility.

I know I'm gonna get **** for this, but I just don't understand honoring people who have not respected what they had/worked for, let alone their life. Look, if this was caused by something other than her own doing, I'll be the first to apologize. But if this was someone who didn't have any star power, there would be no tribute on a grand scale.
Because she was an icon in her field point blank period. Whether this was by her own doing or the drugs she deserves to be recognized for her contributions to the music industry.

Do we really have to go through this "why feel sorry" ordeal in EVERY death thread like this? We can't just show respect for the dead?

R.I.P. Whitney Houston. One of the greatest divas ever to bless the mic.

She was and icon and one of the best female musicians of all-time enough said. She is a legend. Despite the crack and all that Whitney wasn't bad as people want to believe. This is one of the most ignorant statements I've read on OS ever.

That's a total assumption on your part.

Who's to say she didn't have a bunch of yes men/women surrounding her just living off the fame she achieved and millions she earned and didn't give a damn how messed up she was?

                    RIP Whitney.

Her rendition of the American Anthem during the Persian Gulf War is one of, if not the greatest singing of that song ever bar none.

                    My prayers with her family.

As someone who has seen the carnage drug abuse can do to the family of an addict I hope they can focus on and cherish the good times.

Then how does someone as intelligent as her allow one's self to be surrounded by leeches?

I really wanted to see her beat her drug problem. Her voice was so unique and was the foundation of so may that followed her. All you have to do is listen to her performance of the national anthem. Many try to emulate her but fall short.

it's very sad. I actually think this is more of a big deal to me than MJ passing. RIP, Whitney.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Who knows? I doubt anybody on this message board can answer that with any real authority and its silly to throw down assumptions when nobody knows what happened.

                          Damn.

None of us can definitively comment on anything she's been through b/c we didn't know her personally. All we saw what the media showed us good and bad.

And let me be the first to say I'm not knocking you b/c you're entitled to your opinion and I respect it.....but I disagree wholeheartedly.
