Yeah I feel a little ashamed considering the Wire is one of my favorite shows ever, but to be fair, Carcetti was one of the more forgettable characters from that cast.
I found him one of the most memorable, not because of his character but I think more because I find the actor interesting and pretty intense..

Disagree on that one Dog. We know this guy can act but the character Mayor Carcetti couldn't hold a candle (IMHO) to the likes of Omar, Stringer Bell, Chris, Snoop, Marlo, Brother Mouzone, Proposition Joe.....and that's just for starters.

Agreed here. The man playing Littlefinger needs to thank the TV gods for giving him a character 100x more interesting this time. Littlefinger is such a big character in the show as well.

I think you misread my post, I said not his character, his onscreen presence...

I understood. I'm just saying no amount of onscreen presence could elevate that character above so many more interesting ones.

This is a "only in the movies/tv" moment I think, kinda like the scenes in movie/tv where a guy insists on picking up the check and/or giving someone money and the others will never accept it. In real life people love it when others pay and/or give them something, LOL.

And in real life Joffrey, if he was/is straight, would have had some fun with at least one of those gals before getting into his insanity I think...
The scene has nothing to do with his sexuality (and I think it's assumed he's straight). He wanted to send a message to Tyrion because Tyrion just came into the throne room when he was torturing Sansa and called him out as an idiot and showed that he's in charge.

Joffrey being an insane, sadistic decided to send a message to Tyrion about his power in a very grotesque way.

Since we never get to see him I guess the creators just decided to make Joffrey the Mad King reincarnated.

I realize it wasn't speaking to his sexuality but a normal teenage boy would not have approached that in the same manner, at least not initially. Just my opinion. Even the sadistic boy kings of the day who wanted to send a message to others still had sex.

There is sadism, and then there is what Joffrey seems to be, which is a full blown sociopath. Maybe they will develop the character in a different way as the series go on, but right now his sociopathology makes him seem asexual.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

His being a sociopath is what they were trying to convey in that scene. Joffrey is pure evil. Some of that could be from the inbreeding, but King Joffrey is a character that no one should like and they have done a good job making him that.

I would strongly recommend avoiding that if you haven't read the books, it is riddled with spoilers everywhere.

That being said, if you have read the book, it is fantastic. I use it all the time to look stuff up about the series.

Yeah, I read 5 or 6 chapters then read the summaries to make sure I didn't miss anything, but yes it is not a spoiler friendly site.

Another reference site I use is:

A fansite for George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books and HBO's Game of Thrones shows

It allows you to set a "scope" for the last book or season you read/watched and it limits spoilers that way. It's pretty handy, though they haven't updated the character and chapter summaries for ADWD yet.
