Maybe it's now that I've read the books, but I like to see the stuff that is different in the show. There were some significant differences last night, but I thought most of them worked.

I think this season is better TV than season 1, but a worse adaption, and I'm okay with that. The show can do it's own thing as far as I'm concerned, as long as they capture the spirit, characters, and main events of the novels.

Also, to be fair, book 1 was a pretty straight forward adaption, and the second book is harder to translate to the screen. The characters and stories are so spread out and some important characters do little in this book. It's only going to get worse in that sense as well, so the show basically has to become its own thing for the sake of the show, regardless of it becoming a less faithful adaption of the books.

Oh yeah, it's nice that Tyrion's hand and Joffrey's face shared a scene again. It's been awhile!

Anything they can do to make her chapters from ACOK less unbearable is a plus to me. The last few times I read that book I actually skipped her chapters altogether and it made the book about 200% better.

I kind of feel sorry for you Johnny because you are so obsessed with everything being just like it was in the books that you really can't enjoy such an awesome series.

I still enjoy it (more so on a second watch), but I get bummed with seemingly pointless changes. Another change I missed regarding Arya and Jaqen...

While I don't mind The Tickler dying, her killing him in the third book is extremely powerful as she shouts the questions he asked during his torturing of prisoners. Now who will she kill?

What's really interesting is that I've rarely had issues with adaptations from beloved books, there's just something with this one that continues to annoy.

My guess is Polliver, because he's the one that took her sword. Polliver is also at that Inn in the book, so it works without really changing anything with him down the road.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. It was probably the worst book-to-screen episode thus far. That said, I think they did a really good job with Theon and Winterfell. Given they were able to flush that part of the story out in about 20 minutes of screen time is a credit to the writers.

They fell flat in other scenes.

Not having Cersi tell the Kingsgard to not touch Tyrion after he beat Joffrey (which included him kicking the boy king) is a error, as it seemed that even she acknowledges that Joffrey is a terrible king. It is also the last time that Cersi and Tyrion are on the same page.

WTF, having the Dragons stolen? Not only did that never happen in the books it seems like such a stretch, given that she was "welcomed" into Qarth and was residing in the home of "the wealthiest man in Qarth". You would think there would be better security than that. Is she even going to make it into the house of the undying now?

It goes into the 3rd book, but him not just letting Ygritte go which lead to further character development in later chapters and the next book, seems like a miss to me. It also bugs me that in the earlier episode (5 I think), they didn't discover the dragon glass cache, which is HUGE for Samwell's character ealry in book 3.

I would be lying if I didn't come out and say I was looking forward to Amory Lorche's "book death". Seeing his TV death left me quite upset. But they have not really included any of the secondary characters in Harrenhall. No Pia, Weese or any of the others. So this was not to be expected. The Littlefinger stuff was "cute" but seemed forced.

For those that haven't read the books then it is probably a case of no harm, no foul. But man that episode failed in so many regards in the book-to-screen translation in such a big way IMO. I have no idea where they are going with Dany and Jon next week. I guess one of the nice things is that in two weeks there is a huge battle coming, which probably took up a lot of the budget (I read they had to go to HBO and ask for more money) and it is written by GRRM, so regardless I will be looking forward to that episode. Despite my issues with this episode, I have to admit given all they changes they made I am looking forward to seeing how they get the story back on track if they do, so I am looking forward to next week a bit.

As a book fan you echoed my problems with that episode fully.

I imagine they're just going to make it so the Warlock stole the dragons, and Dany has to go into the house of the undying to get them back.

Personally, I thought that whole chapter was written a bit strange in the book, so I have no problem with the changes, assuming that is the route the show is going.

Seeing how I was pretty disappointed with last week's show I am really looking forward to this week to see what they do with Jon and Dany.

Also started "A Dance with Dragons" this week it's crazy to think I will have knocked out all 5 books this spring. I only hope "Winds of Winter" isn't 3 years off.

Also...I don't buy it for a second. Two burned children corpses? One with legs that don't even look a little bit atrophied and shriveled? Uh-uh.

Bran and Rickon ain't dead. It's those two other kids we saw briefly in that town. Both were the same age.

Theon is gambling on that the people of Winterfell aren't as intelligent as you. He does not want to look like a fool; all of his cruelty is him trying to gain respect from his men/family. Although I don't know why he stayed at home in the first place, had I gotten that kind of frosty reception, I would have left.

Only Jaime Lannister could kill his cousin that adores him...

Loved the way they are handling Theon's stroy arc. Arya and Tywin have been fantastic all season. Loved their exchange(s) this episode. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) has been awesome this year. He was great last year, but being the guy to replace Sean Bean as the lead actor, just fantastice work, for one of the more interesting characters in the book.

I won't dwell on it, but I don't like what they have done with Jon Snow this season or Dany.
