Does Ivy Bridge support tri and quad channel ram?

Also Thanks for the heads up on the 680. I won't use 3 monitors. So GTX it is

Yes but you need the LGA-2011.

Thanks again for the tips guys, as far as a case is concerned, all I want is something that is functional, good size for my parts, and most importantly has good airflow. I don't really care what it looks like since I would actually prefer a tower that does not draw undue attention.

I am also having second thoughts on my Motherboard, I floated my specs over on another forum and the common theme was I should look for a better Mobo if I am already spending a decent amount of cash. I am honestly pretty clueless and I am just going by what I read on Tomshardware.com and newegg reviews. I will probably bump my power supply to a 850w to accommodate a future SLI setup. I am settled on my CPU, Memory, and Video card.

Wouldn't that make it Ivy Bridge-E yet? I don't think thats out yet right. I have a Sandy Bridge-E board that's why I'm asking....

Ok guys, I have settled on these parts, I attached a price next to them based on google(only reputable sources).

            CASE: Thermaltake Chaser MK-I - ---137.77
            Fans: 180mm- newegg search - ---7.99
            CPU: Intel I5 3570k - ---213.99
            Air Cooler:CM Hyper 212 Evo - ---30.
            MOBO:Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H- ---140
            Memory:G.SKILL Ripjaws x Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 ---85
Video Card: eVGA GeForce GTX 680 ---470
Power Supply: Thermaltake ToughPower Grand 850W--- 158
            HDD:Western Digital WD1003FBYX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB ---85

            Fan controller: ---25
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium: 80

The total cost is $1,623. Right on budget. Just for poops n giggles I went to a few websites and compared and building at home sure sounds like the way to go. Cyberpowerpc.com was the closest to me at $1,717, my friend bought off them years ago and the PC had all sorts of problems.

Looks pretty good! Not sure on that fan though. I don't see a spot for a 180mm fan. You may not even need it. A 200mm fan is MASSIVE and it has two of them.

Ok, I just wasn't sure and I figured more fans the better. So all I'm waiting for is my new credit card I planned on purchasing this with. Tonight I think I will watch some how to videos on building this creature.

                  More fans = more noise.

Newegg has some pretty good videos on YouTube. They have a step by step building video as well. They also had a video for how to install the CPU cooler.

More fans + bigger fans means you can run them slower and still push the same volume of air, which would produce less noise.

Thinking of picking up two of these to replace my one 4.5 year old 22" monitor. Not sure if I want to pull the trigger while they will be $170 or wait and see if there will be any better deals on black friday.

                        http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236174

One area I am not familiar with is display port. My card has DVI, HDMI, and 2x display port. Should I go ahead and get two display port to HDMI converters and run both on the same output? I couldn't find any monitors in my price range with display port.

Any opinions on LCD v. LED for monitors?

no need if you only plan on using two monitors, Displayport is a digital output as is HDMI

What type of connection is the side of the cable that will be going to the monitor? I was saying would I need a special cable that went output as DisplayPort and input into the monitor as HDMI? Or is that what displayport is?

No Display port is it's own cable, Just like Hdmi is it's own cable. If the Monitor doesn't have a Display Port Directly, You can buy a display port to DVI or a Display port to HDMI. Since your card already has one HDMI and one DVI You can always just set the monitor off by one on DVI and one on HDMI. Displayport adapters are always tricky to find as well...

Does anyone know if Newegg offers decent Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday deals on decent computer parts? Haven't had a desktop PC built since 2001 (lol) as I've largely used a laptop for recent needs. Well now it's time to get a new gaming rig for (mainly) SC5. I have the parts picked out, my only question is on video cards.

Is it really necessary to run an SLI setup with newer cards? Since I haven't played many newer games on PC, I have to go by hearsay, and what I've heard is that games aren't really developed with SLI in mind (that is, SLI actually makes games play less efficiently). If I'm getting a newer video card, I figured one would be enough to power even the most bleeding-edge, graphic-heavy games. Does anyone have experience in this area?

                                Thanks!
