Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

Im guessing something in my unit is bad. Like I said I plug in my power supplyand hit the switch in the back. The motherboard lights up and I hit the power button for it to attempt a start up only to shut back off.

Im heading to bed now to sleep off this depression.....

Did you thoroughly check the CPU socket pins before putting in the CPU?

I think I'm about to join you guys in the world of PC building in the near future. Thinking I will start with this case:

Easiest way is to just open up the case, and blow some spurts of compressed air from inside out (otherwise you clear it from the fans and keep it in your system.)

LOL. That's a tad bit impossible but please do share techniques to keep dust out. I usually clean my PC's innards every end of the month, two months if I'm feeling lazy.

                      Looks fine to me:

I ended up unplugging everything from the Motherboard except PSU and unplugged everything from the PSU except Motherboard, took CPU out from underneath Heatsink and reattached it back. Started it back up and it did the same thing however 2 lights went off. A red light flashed twice where I circles red and a blue light flashed once where I circled blue. The 2 red light flashed first before the blue one if that makes any difference. BTW the red light says HOT right below it while the blue light says CPU under it:

Where's your actual CPU though? The "pins" that he's referring to is on the actually CPU. The hundreds of small tiny pins coming out of the bottom of the processor.

I also wonder what the version BIOS is on the board? Looking at the board compatibility, the processor/CPU is compatible with the board, but the BIOS has to be 0057 revision or later. That could be an issue. You have to make sure the processor is supported, or else it won't start either. It'll get electricity through the board, then when it gets to the CPU, if it's not supported, it'll shut down in order to not damage the other parts of the board. If you have a friend that has an earlier CPU that you could put in, to make sure that it'll start. Just throwing out suggestions that are running through my head.

LGA 1115 the pins are in the socket.

The lights mean it checks CPU and applies power, but that's where it stops.

The BIOS revision should be printed somewhere, maybe the box where they have serial number or on a sticker somewhere on the board itself (never had to look for it myself, but it should be somewhere).

Did you get them from Newegg? I think they offer installation support. The times I have called for whatever reason they have been good (and American).
