Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Yeah see my computer came with the FX 6100 and I want to upgrade but am not sure exactly what to do.
I have an HD7770 also, so one at a time.
According to this, I need to upgrade the CPU first of all. What would you tackle first?Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
At some point, a complete build is almost needed. For instance, I built mine in 2008 and its now 5 years old. I can currently run 90% of my games still on high and I get a frame rate of around 35 to 50 depending on the game. I can decrease to medium or go custom and tweak the settings to get the most out of the graphics while still retaining a playable frame rate. So I can remain on this current build another 2 years if I really wanted.
FoxConn P45A mobo - Handles only DDR2 Ram and is the now out dated 775 socket, only has USB 2.0,
Q6600 Quad Core 2.4Ghz - Still does the job
So while I would struggle to find a proc to fit the 775 socket, why would I want to go with a new processor when my ram will still be outdated.
So my best bet if I want a quick fix would be new motherboard, new CPU, and new ram. My GPU would still be fine for couple years then I can just upgrade a new video card later. My power supply, case, CD/DVR drive, Hard Drive, Sound card, etc are all still fine and would transfer over.
So while it is not a complete build. I could go with a i5 for $219, ASRock Z77 for $134, and then 8 gigs of DDR3 ram for around $60 bucks. So for around $400 to $450, I could have a good new build then add in a new video card in couple years when my current one shows to much age.Comment

Post the models of motherboard, GPU, proc, and ram. Can see what your options are.Last edited by Phobia; 04-01-2013, 04:20 PM.Comment

My 560TI is slightly faster than your HD7770. Your FX-6100 is little better than my Q6600, I have 4 gig ram you have 8.
I'd say your most noticable impact to see improvement instantly would be get rid of the 7770. I'm a Nvidia fan so I would go GTX 660 TI, but the HD7870 is a good card also. The jump from the 7770 to the 7870 just would be a minimal upgrade where the jump from 7770 to 660TI you would see a much larger jump in frames per sec. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/SPARKLE-GeFo...Radeon-HD-7770Last edited by Phobia; 04-01-2013, 04:59 PM.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Don't think im ready to mix and match yet, but I definitely want to go beyond the 6 core processing, even though it works very well.
Certainly going to change the 7770 first and foremost, I've been on and off of newegg checking the prices. Actually from around the web, Newegg seems to have the best deals..
I really haven't touched anything overclock wise, but would I have to get anymore fans? description stated it has liquid cooling in it.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I personally have had good performance with XFX in the past. I have recently left them and went to EVGA. While the performance is there, my card does post lower scores than some other models. Best thing is look at a model you want then go through the different reviews of each brand of that model to find the best one posting the highest scores.Last edited by Phobia; 04-01-2013, 05:17 PM.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Depends on the hardware and the game. Some games are more cpu bound and vice versa. Sometimes you have an unbalanced rig and one of your components (like a cpu) is causing a bottleneck in performance.Last edited by trobinson97; 04-01-2013, 05:33 PM.PS: You guys are great.
