Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

It seems you guys know a lot about computers, much more than I do.

What's the best bang for my buck at $500? Should I build? If so, what parts do you recommend?

    Is this desktop any good?

EDIT: GMSS, what parts would you recommend with my $500 budget? Thanks my dude

Here's the build I'm thinking of going with:
      • Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz LGA 1155 Processor (169.99 from Microcenter)
      • GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H LGA 1155 (99.99 from Newegg after rebate)
      • G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL (24.99 from Newegg)
      • SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC128B/WW 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC SSD (103.99 from Newegg)

I'm reusing the case, DVD drive and power supply from my current build.

      Total: $398.96

I'm still debating the graphics card. Deciding whether I should go with a Radeon 7850 or splurge for a better card.

      Any thoughts?

At least do the 7870. The Gigabyte version is like $229. Currently sold out though on Newegg.

This is a really good deal for a barebones kit...

Microcenter has the Gigagbyte 7870 for $229 after rebate so going to grab it there. Lucky to have one nearby. $169.99 on the Intel Core i5 3570K is by far the best price I've seen.

Ordering it off NewEgg gets your a free copy of Far Cry 3 if you care about that game.

How do I get my games to cover 2 screens? I actually don't plan on playing it like this, just want to get a picture to show off.

                I have a 22" and a 27". Sporting a 7870 Ghz edition video card.

I extended my displays on the windows settings. Then I tried setting up an Eyefinity group. Both Crysis and Skyrim only displayed on the main monitor while the other just showed my background.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

So I upgraded my CPU and pretty much the only thing I am keeping is my power supply and graphics card. Got everything today but the case and since my new motherboard won't fit inside my current case I just decided to do what I could for now. So I set up my SSD with a windows install and I am putting stuff on it now.

If you don't have a SSD, get one!!!! I was kinda skeptical but after getting this one up and running there is no reason to not have one. They are amazing. I will post pictures and stats tomorrow after everything is hooked up and running.

Yeah, I think my full Windows7 install took a total of maybe 10 minutes with my SSD and a USB3 thumb drive. I was sitting there ready to leave the room like I usually do when installing Windows and before I could stand up it was rebooting. So, from install, an SSD was like a completely different computer experience.

Edit: Just shut down to check boot time, it took exactly 11 seconds from hitting the power button until I could open a browser window.

Yeah mine is the same. It took about 10 minutes for the windows install and the time from when I click restart to the time I can open a browser window is very similar.

That whole post seems kind of confusing to me, especially the run on sentence from the tomshardware guy. Unless someone is on a super tight budget, there really isn't a reason to stick with the last gen 2500K. I am not sure how power consumption works in relation to the cost, but the 3570K uses 17 less Watts of power, so any extra cost could be cancelled out.

I didn't say any of it was wrong. It was just impossible to make any sense of it IMO, sorry.

It's all cool man, but if it's not legible then it was good idea to delete.
