The Shellshocker should be $159.99. Then use promo code: VMEPROMOMAR13

When you check out,you have to click on the V.Me by Visa button. You'll create a V.Me account (xpress pay type of thing), it's 2-3 steps, and then click on submit. Wallah! $143 plus whatever shipping you use. I have free shoprunner shipping, so $143 shipped!

I was using the promo code -_-

Couldn't use it anyways. I was trying to get a 7870 which also comes with Bioshock and Tombraider free. Instead of it being a package it's puts the 2 game package as a separate item then gives a discount for the amount, so I couldn't use two "coupons"

Damn I didn't future proof my power supply. Only have a 650W so I'd have to upgrade that too to get another 7870

10% more off if you have a Visa and use "V.Me". I just ordered. Great deal on a pretty good sized SSD. Think it was right at $143 shipped 2Day through shoprunner.

Did you get Shoprunner for free? They gave me a free three month trial and when I didn't choose to keep it, they made it a year. Then this past Christmas it was set to expire and they gave me another year.

That's how I got mine too. Haven't paid a thing for it. Just let it expire, then all of the sudden, wallah, new year for free.

Haha, nice. How are those guys still in business with that model? Not that I'm complaining of course, I enjoy the free 2 Day shipping and the occasional discounts.

Oh yeah, I got my new monitor the other day. Went with the ASUS VG248QE. Really happy with it so far.

I did the same thing except I had to use it 3 times in 3 months. So they said at least.

Considering building a PC for gaming purposes...my laptop cannot run anything (StarCraft II at 5-10 FPS with all low settings). Not necessarily looking for something that will run 80+ FPS, just something that can run games like StarCraft II/SimCity smoothly. Here's what I picked out:

Intel Pentium G2120 Ivy Bridge @ 3.1 GHz
                      4GB DDR3 RAM
                      520W PSU
                      Sapphire Radeon HD 7750
                      160 GB internal HDD

After shipping the CPU, PSU, RAM, graphics card, motherboard, hard drive, and case comes to roughly $375...I'd probably just look for the cheapest DVD burner I can find and a relatively inexpensive monitor. How would that hold up?

Honestly, I'd tell you to look for a graphics card that's at 2GB. I think that one you're looking at is a 1GB card.

I'm also staunchly against AMD for graphics cards, but that's neither here nor there.

You'll eventually want a larger HDD as well - remember formatting takes off some of that (my 512 turns into 476gb available) and the OS will take up space as well. You can pick some up on sale. (I have a 512GB SSD for Steam and other programs that have some larger load times that I still have to rotate games on at times, with a 2TB for storage).

Also, jwilphl I have two of those graphics cards in my PC. Absolutely love them. Eventually going to get a 3rd GPU (but something cheaper, just to be the dedicated PhysX card).

I have the i7-3930k (6-core) that's overclocked to 4.5GHz normally, and the two GTX-680 4GBs in there. They are all normally running full bore so when I game it's a reprieve for them. Thanks, folding@home.

I think my temps average around 70 for the processor (some cores bump up to 72-75ish occasionally, depending on ambient room temp) and 65ish for both GPUs (with a 1-2 degree variance between them.)

Ahhhh! I made up my mind that my 650W PSU was enough to handle two 7870 cards. Then I realized it only has the ability to plug in 2 PCI-E power cables. So I will have to go with an overpowered PSU and another $120 -_-. Future proofing fail, $30 extra back in June would have prevented this haha

Don't take that "staunchly against AMD graphics" too seriously (no offense uber, but come on). They and Nvidia make fine cards. I've used both, and I like them both. Set a price point for what you want to spend on one, do your research and get the best bang for your buck regardless of the name of the company. If staying under $100 is what you're shooting for then Tom's Hardware agrees with you, the 7750 their best card at that price point right now.

Here's a link to their best gaming cpu for the money for February as well, check it out before you make your final decisions.

Like Uber said though, you're definitely going to want a bigger hard drive. 160 simply won't be enough unless you want to constantly be uninstalling games and programs to make room for new games. Doesn't have to be an SSD, you can get a cheaper HDD with a lot of space to install all your games on. If you're cutting it close budget wise considering you still need a monitor, optical drive and I'm guessing keyboard and mouse, I'd just get the large HDD and upgrade to an SSD for your OS later on since mechanical drives are so much cheaper.

Yeah, my AMD comment was personal preference. Their drivers have always left me wanting - so I will never purchase an AMD card again in my life, but again... personal preference. The hardware itself isn't bad by any means though.

Depending on his screen resolution, 1gb video is fine as well. 2gb for anything over 1080p though.
